My-BEST: Baby's Emotional & Social Trajectories

My-BEST: Baby's Emotional & Social Trajectories De Universiteit van Amsterdam doet in samenwerking met de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappel How do we know when and how to respond to one another?

If there is a language around the world that we all understand, is the one of facial and body gestures. As an Italian, born in New Zealand, and educated in the Netherlands, I find human nonverbal communication extremely fascinating. How do we adapt our communication to people we have never seen before, hence strangers? That smile, that gaze, at the precise moment.. that hand pointing toward the pr

ecise direction of interest... to communicate our internal worlds. Human social interactions are complex. Yet, each and every one relies on nonverbal communication. Investigating inter-individual variations in preverbal babies' communication, and what factors modulate such variance, is among the main objectives of the current research project. We explore so by combining longitudinal and experimental designs, including parental questionnaires, home- and lab- visits, so as to capture the multiple mechanisms underlying socio-communicative maturation in the first two years of life.

- Early Parent-Infant Emotional Synchrony as Predictor of Infants' Expressions of Shyness, part of the Symposium ‘Beyond maternal sensitivity: Shedding light on different facets of parent-child interaction quality’
Research project together with Milica

- Infant Multimodal Coordination of Gaze and Smile with Familiar and Unfamiliar Partners in Real Time, part of the ‘Sensory issues in early mother infant interactions’
Research project together with Alan
