Caring Univerisities is an international endeavor funded by the World Health Organization (WHO). The aim is to survey the mental health of college students around the world in order to improve our knowledge about college students’ mental wellbeing.

To draw attention to this program, the Week of Caring is organized in hopes of daring students to care enough to make a difference in any or all of these themes: Sustainability, Diversity, Health, Humanity, and - finally - Our University. What is the change you’d like to see in the world? How can you make it happen? Each day, there will be free activities and give-aways centered around the theme and allow you to try and think of your own answers to these questions.

Visit the website www.caring-universities.com to learn more about this initiative.

Caring Universities offers free evidence-based mental health programs and personal e-coaching to students from VU, Leiden, Utrecht and Maastricht University.

In the second year of our master program, you have the opportunity to do your major internship abroad which is a great experience. Read here the blog of Matthew to get an idea about the possibilities.

My name is Matthew Montesano and I am a 2nd year Cardiovascular Research Master student at the VUmc School of Medical Sciences. I’m currently completing my major internship at Canada’s largest cardiovascular health centre, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. As a member of the exercise physiology & cardiovascular health lab, I’m interested in how exercise can be used in both preventative and rehabilitative cardiology. More specifically, my internship will explore the relationship between coronary artery disease, revascularization methods and exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation. At the Heart Institute, I also have the opportunity to assist with other clinical research studies and gain experience working directly with various types of cardiac patients. The Cardiovascular Research Master program is very unique in allowing me the freedom to explore different areas of cardiovascular research. I completed my minor internship at the VUmc department of vascular surgery where I looked at the feasibility of a minimally-invasive alternative to open surgery for the repair of aortic arch pathologies using newly developed branched stent grafts. I think these experiences will help me to become a more well-rounded researcher and enable me to achieve my future goals.
