Last week the EMCI track celebrated its 5-year anniversary! Nine industry leaders shared their insights on innovation, competition, and commerce in music, fashion, and nightlife.

Special thanks to our speakers: Richard Zijlma (former director of the Amsterdam Dance Event/artistic director Conservatory Haarlem), Nadine van Bodegraven (General manager of Armada Music), James Veenhoff (Fronteer Strategy - founder of the Amsterdam Fashion Week - House of Denim), Lisa Konno (Fashion designer), Dena Simaite (Noumenon), Ernst Mertens (De School), Aziz Yagoub (Perron, Toffler), Ramon de Lima (Stichting N8BM A’dam) and Patricia Weijman (JACK Amsterdam).

This event would not have been possible without the dedication from our lustrum committee (Charlotte, Sam, Henjola, Douwe), graphic designer (Cenk), symposium moderators (Sid, Alessio, Syrta, Charlotte, Douwe) and ABS for hosting the event.

Be ahead of the competition

Are the creative industries progressing towards liberated pluralism or are they entering an era of monoculture dominated by high tech business like Netflix and You Tube? Is being more well-known or mastery of an art form the key to unlocking artistic and financial success? How do entrepreneurs and businesses manage the balance and friction between artistic and commercial objectives? Especially now where, for example, algorithmically generated suggestions such as ‘fans also like’ dominate the competitive landscape?

During the EMCI program you will explore state-of-the-art theories and industry practices to gain a fine-grained understanding of dynamic competitive processes in the highly competitive creative industries, such as media, entertainment, music, film, fashion and the arts.

Theory and practice During this track you dive into diverse business fields, ranging from management and marketing to organizational design, innovation and strategy. Expect inspiring guest lecturers from museums, orchestras and theatres. But also from start-ups and large firms such as Talpa, Armada Music and Amsterdam Dance Event. Team up with fellow students to work on interesting business cases and presenting them in class.

This track is perfect for you if you have the desire to work in the creative industries or if you plan to work in any industry in which creativity and innovation play a central role.
