Our Story

I AM Summer School IFMSA-UvA is proud to present the fourth edition of the International Amsterdam Medical Summer School. We invite all (para-)medical students to join us in Amsterdam from 7-14 July 2019, where we will focus on global infectious diseases . In the recent decades, health care has evolved tremendously. Today’s health care has become a dynamic field of interprofessional and international stakeholders. Some examples of determinants and distribution of global health are: medicine, public health, epidemiology, demography, economics and social context. Despite many efforts and modernization of medicine, infectious diseases remain a major global problem. Understanding the multi-factorial issues surrounding this global problem is essential in practicing effective medicine. In order to fulfill your profound role and successfully collaborate with other parties involved in global health, it is important for us as future doctors to create an understanding of these issues early-on in our careers. This way, we will become familiar with the pitfalls and opportunities of each stakeholder. Getting to understand how infectious diseases are still one of the major problems in healthcare, this summer school will help you to lay a solid foundation in your perception of global health. The I AM Summer School gives you a great chance to prepare yourself, on a basis of infectious diseases, to work in health care systems on a larger, global scale. By participating in this summer school, you will learn to challenge yourself to collaborate, think outside the box and thereby establish the most ideal future doctor (yourself), and thus care for patients all around the world. Get inspired together with (para-)medical students from all over the world. Develop skills that students are not taught in classical curricula and get in touch with facets of the daily lives of doctors who went beyond their borders.
