ISB students meet experts on restoring social relations after a conflict!

How cool is it to interview a major speaker in preparation for an interactive Talk show on Reconciliation in Arnhem? Two ISB students did just that!

Tonian Campbell (IBA-D04) interviewed South-African Mpho Tutu (human rights activist and daughter of Desmond Tutu). Franziska Pietsch (IBA-C06) interviewed Daniela Schily (German War Graves Foundation). You can watch videos (in English) below.

What is happening in Myanmar?

On February 1st, the military in Myanmar seized control and elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party are among hundreds of people detained. Military commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing has taken power. He has received international condemnation and sanctions for his alleged role in the military’s attacks on ethnic minorities. Civilians have been peacefully protesting and ethnic groups and minorities are all forming a united front in their fight for democracy.

Among the arrested and detained protesters is our own International Business student Kyaw Soe Han. As his girlfriend describes: “He was arrested on the 3rd of March while participating in a peaceful protest and ever since his arrest we haven’t been able to contact or see him. We don’t know where he is being held, we don’t know what his condition is, and the military has refused to give us any information. We are incredibly worried and deeply concerned for his safety. Please speak out for these detainees and call out for their swift release.”

We ask you to be aware of the situation, to educate yourself and to stand up for democracy.

Find more information about the current events in Myanmar on Amnesty International: https://www.amnesty.org/en/search/?country=38380

And of course, you can leave a comment with a message of support for Kyaw Soe Han and his girlfriend Alyssa and his family in the comments.

Dear B-cluster students,

We need your help!

Tomorrow our new international students will arrive in The Netherlands to start with their A-cluster.

The online introduction days are this Thursday & Friday

All international students have to stay in quarantine for 10 days.

And this is why we need your help!

They can’t leave their house to buy groceries.

We need: 5 students per class who would like to help our new students with this.

It can be helping out with online grocery shopping or delivering groceries to them.

Interested?

Send an e-mail to: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) before tomorrow 16.00.

Instructions will follow tomorrow evening!

And yes, this counts as Community Service for B-PPD!
