Founded as the TU Delft Solar Boat Team, we have been designing, building and racing cutting-edge boats driven by sustainable tech for over 15 years. In 2021, we made the switch from Solar Energy to Hydrogen and this year we decided to continue under the name of TU Delft Hydro Motion Team. The TU Delft Hydro Motion Team is a Dreamteam of the TU Delft. Our team consists of 25 ambitious students wit

h different study backgrounds. Each year a new team builds a new boat made in conjunction with the knowledge of industry experts and the experience of alumni. This project grants the opportunity to test components operating together to accelerate innovation in the maritime industry. The team has been developing for years, exploring uncharted waters. We've sailed at a top speed of 55 km/h on solar energy, with our custom-designed wings we made our boat fly, we became world champions in the Open Sea Class, and we built the first flying hydrogen boat! We will continue this motion of development to contribute to a sustainable world. This year, we optimize every part of our boat for the use of hydrogen. We will design our boat to excel in endurance, speed and manoeuvrability. To put our boat to the test, we will participate in the Offshore Competition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge to become world champions. Our team shows what a multidisciplinary team of driven students can achieve with the right mindset and by combining their strengths. Being the engineers of the future, we take the next step towards a sustainable world.

Our lovely boat flies!!

It does so with underwater wings called foils. By lifting the hull out of the water, drag is drastically reduced, allowing us to sail faster and farther with far greater efficiency than a conventional boat.

This year, we are taking it to the next level! One large front foil instead of two! And with the actively controlled flaps, we almost become an airplane.

But building an airplane for water is something you need experience and expertise for. Luckily, we are working together with ,they provide us with their knowledge on foiling systems, making us able to build the world’s first liquid hydrogen powered foiling raceboat.

There she is!

Last Friday we revealed our 2026 boat at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam. Seeing her emerge during golden hour on the IJ after months of hard work was a moment we will never forget.

Huge thanks to Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, our partners and everyone who helped make this happen.

Now it is time to sail. Showing what this polar bear with golden struts can do on liquid hydrogen!
