We are so proud to announce our new location for the AMI 3-6 diploma course will be in Amsterdam next to AMI head office! The AMI 3-6 diploma course will be one day a week (Fridays), some weekends and a fulltime week in May (during Dutch May Holiday). Some lectures will be online, most are on site in Amsterdam. We will start after Christmas! Soon we will announce more details! 😊

Our current AMI 6-12 diploma course students are preparing for their exams! Since they now know all ins and outs on all geometry materials, presentations and stories to tell in this area, they today put all materials in a logical order which was a very nice practice for the exams! 🥰

Observation anchors everything…but it can be SO hard!

This weekend, I’ll be leading the Observation in a Busy 0–3 Environment workshop. Observation is one of the most important tools we have, but it’s often the first thing we stop when the classroom gets busy.

We’ll look at what to observe, how to record observations efficiently, and how to use what you see to make meaningful changes in the environment and your practice.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re moving from one fire to the next without having time to STOP and really see what’s happening, this workshop is for you.

Psst.. we have exciting news!! We are planning a one-day-a-week AMI 3-6 diploma course with the amazing Vikki Taylor as the trainer! We are planning to start in January 2027! Fridays will be lecture days!! Some weekends and one week in may each year..! “How do you have sewing out for toddlers?”

In my training this is in the albums to have out in the room just like bead stringing/lacing is! The way to do it is laid out, it’s been taught from trainer to student for YEARS. This is nothing revolutionary that I did in the environment.

How can you make it safe? By having the needle in its own case, by having a latch on the box that holds all the supplies and mostly, by filling the need for the younger children!
When they have materials that are filling their development needs they are less likely to be drawn to this. And if they are…I simply turned it into a language lesson for them or showed them one simple step of the process such as how to safely remove the needle, put it in the pincushion, and replace it in the needle case again!

The young child needs plants. In Montessori, we invite curiosity about plants to help the child develop an affection for and love of the natural world.

In botany, we offer keys to understanding the natural world. At first, the illustrated flower has less meaning than an actual flower, which has less meaning than a flower they have collected in the context of nature.

If you haven't set up vials to observe the roots of plants yet this year, there's still time. At the training center, AMI 3-6 Trainer Caroline Clark shows us how one could set this out for children.

The themes of biology help a child understand their unique responsibilities in the world:
Gratitude;
Reverence;
Care and Respect.
