Today we have,

Kimberley van den Bogaard - Dutch 🇳🇱 - Rotor Design (Structures) -

As a second year rotor design student I have been lucky enough to be able live in Copenhagen Denmark twice.

The first semester at DTU was refreshing. I got to know a lot of new and amazing people both in my dorm and within EWEM. Highlights were definitely the wind turbine climb with Ae**us but also visiting Christmas in Tivoli with all my fellow EWEM’ers. The courses at DTU were also really interesting, learning about wind energy in general but also immediately specializing with other courses.

I continued my specialization at the TU Delft and especially enjoyed the trinity exercise where I got to work in the lab to manufacture and test composites myself. The social MDE in Drenthe was also a lot of fun!

Back in Denmark for my third semester I had the opportunity to follow a course at UN city on sustainability which was amazing. Other highlights were a visit to an offshore wind farm and being able to buy a real piece of art at a gallery in Copenhagen. I also got the amazing opportunity from DTU to visit the electric city conference where I got to see what is currently going on in the wind industry. I got to sit on the DTU 12.6m research wind turbine blade which is now part of my master thesis project! I will be redesigning this blade to be made of bio-based materials to increase the sustainability of the wind turbine blade itself. I really look forward to where this project will bring me and to the many more adventure that are awaiting me here in Copenhagen.

Don’t hesitate to contact me in case of any questions regarding this programme.

Today we have,

Céline Wolfs - Dutch 🇳🇱 - Offshore Engineering -

Beginning my master in Denmark at DTU was really amazing. Meeting my fellow students and experiencing a different university was a lot of fun. I learned a lot from the different learning approaches that DTU had and the courses were very interesting. Besides the University, I have enjoyed exploring the city of Copenhagen. It is a beautiful city that has a lot to offer in terms of culture, nature, architecture, recreation, and nightlife.

Meanwhile, I am back in the Netherlands and have started my courses at the Technical University of Delft. I enjoy that the courses are different again and that they fit the overall program, in my case Offshore Engineering. Although I am loving it to be back, I am already looking forward to going to Trondheim in Norway the next semester.

I am also the President of Ae**us board. Message me to know more about the programme or any questions regarding the Ae**us board.

Today we have,

Thodoris Kalimeris - Greek 🇬🇷 - Offshore Engineering -

My first semester of EWEM took place at DTU, and it was fascinating. I met numerous people coming from various places and cultures, together with whom I evolved as an individual and made some unforgettable memories. From an educational perspective, teaching at DTU was state-of-the-art, initiating me to the concepts of wind energy engineering, thanks to the efforts of some remarkable professors.

After exploring Denmark, my next stop is the Netherlands, where I have begun my TU Delft Semester. I am inquisitive to see what this semester holds for me. Based on the first days here, all I can say is that I can't wait to be challenged by TU Delft and create more memories worth remembering!

Feel free to contact me to know more about the coursework and/or being Greek on this programme.

I had an awesome first semester in Denmark. As an international student, I was worried about the cultural differences as I had never been out of the country for an extended period of time before EWEM. But the people in my dorm and EWEM were very very welcoming, and I had an amazing time with them. Celebrating Christmas with my Danish dormmates was an amazing experience with the best part being the Christmas dinner. Learning about the cutting-edge research at DTU, and meeting the industrial partners of wind energy at the Electric City conference in Copenhagen allowed me to experience ongoing research and it's implementations in the industry. My highlight of the semester was definitely the wind turbine climb organized by Ae**us.

I am looking forward to the semester at Delft, to meet new people and to experience a new culture. One of the major reasons I applied to EWEM was the opportunity to travel between countries during my degree, and being able to experience classes at both DTU and TU Delft has been amazing. I am looking forward to experiencing Dutch culture and eating a load of stroopwaffles :).

If you have any questions or qualms about being an international student in EWEM, feel free to message me.

I’ve had a really amazing first semester at DTU where I met some great people and had some really interesting courses. The teaching was great as DTU has with it’s wind energy department some highly skilled researchers and despite some of the courses being very challenging, it’s worth the effort as you learn a lot. One of the best activities I’ve had this semester was the trip to an offshore wind farm but also the traditional wind turbine climb.

I’m looking forward for the upcoming semester in Delft as I have the opportunity to experience a completely new country and will take some very specialized courses. Furthermore I’m looking forward to visit some companies in the Netherlands during the MDE and have some great nights with my fellow students.

I am also the Treasurer of .aeolus.

If you have any questions regarding this amazing master program, Ae**us or life in different countries, just hit me up!

… Francesco!

Francesco (Offshore Engineering track, 2020) is a second-year EWEM student from Milan, Italy. Last month he participated in the 3-week course Arctic Engineering at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) 🐻‍❄️🧊. Swipe right to see the the highlights of his week!

➡️ Time to test some ice mechanics in real life in the Ice Lab at UNIS. The temperature in this lab can be set to -40°, hence it was wise to suit up in warm clothes.

➡️ The unbelievable colors of the Aurora Borealis were visible in the sky!

➡️ In Svalbard you get to learn from some true “ice & Arctic experts”. Amongst others we studied design and operations off offshore structures in the Arctic. On the last day of the course, we also presented a case study.

➡️ How often do you spot wildlife when going to a lecture? Surprisingly enough the reindeers are not shy to humans and often pay a visit to UNIS.

➡️Time for a field trip! After a short safety briefing, the class went to inspect coastal erosion.

➡️ After 3 amazing weeks, it was time to go back to the NTNU in Trondheim. Goodbye, Svalbard! 👋
