COVID-19 Update

The Dutch government had a press conference in which they announced new measures in the battle against the COVID-19 virus.

1. At home, you can invite maximum 1 person.
2. Travellers from other countries coming back to the Netherlands need to be able to show a negative PCR test that has been taken in the past 72 hours, and need to do a rapid test before entering the country. Thus, it is necessary to have two negative tests. This accounts for flights, ferries, trains, busses and cars. In addition, when one comes from abroad, you have to go in quarantine for 10 days.
3. From Saturday onwards, there is a prohibition of flights from the UK, South-Africa and South-America. This prohibition will stay until there is a mandatory quarantine from travellers from those regions.

There also have been talks about the curfew. The curfew would be between 20.30 and 4.30. However, this is NOT yet set, because the government is still debating about this. As soon as it is an official measure, we will announce it on our page!

UPDATE COVID-19

Dear all,

Today, the Dutch Government gave a new conference. Last week, several measures for some regions (mainly Noord-Brabant) in the Netherlands were taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Due to the current situation, the government is applying the measures to ALL regions in the Netherlands.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) of the Netherlands is applying the following measures:

1. Stay at home when you have a cold, cough, sore throat or fever. Please distance yourself socially in this case. Call your GP only if the symptoms get worse.
2. Gatherings with more than 100 people are being cancelled in the Netherlands. This also accounts for public spaces like museums, concert halls, theaters, sport clubs and sport games.
3. If possible, work from home as much as possible.
4. For the vulnerable groups (namely, elderly and people with a weaker health): distance yourself from social gatherings and public transport.

The measures are taken for the whole country until the 31st of March.

For all the information, and to prevent you from misinformation, we suggest you to visit the website of the RIVM, which is also available in English:

https://www.rivm.nl/en/news/current-information-about-novel-coronavirus-covid-19

Information can also be found on the website of the World Health Organization:

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019

We understand that these are confusing times for all, especially when you are from abroad. We are trying to inform you as soon as possible with the correct information that we retrieve from the RIVM. We, ESN The Netherlands and all our sections, are here to support and help you when necessary. If you have any questions, worries or need help, don’t hesitate to contact us. All our volunteers are here to help you!

We would kindly like to remind everyone to stay calm and safe. Together, we can control the situation! 🧡
