Our alumna and lecturer Carina van de Beek is featured in a podcast! 🎙️ Carina graduated in Animal and Livestock Farming from Aeres University of Applied Sciences Dronten and later obtained her teaching qualification. Today, she combines her role as an International Dairy Farming lecturer with running a dairy farm and milk processing business with her family. 🥛🐄

As a Nuffield Scholar 2023, she travelled the world researching how farmers can successfully develop additional business activities that bridge the gap between agriculture and consumers. 🌍💡 In this podcast, she shares her experiences, insights from her research, and her own entrepreneurial journey.

“Hello everyone 🙋‍♀️, I am Blenda Fazliu, currently pursuing my Master's in Agricultural and Food Economics at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Universiteti i Prishtinës 🇽🇰

I am thrilled to recount an incredible experience I had during my time as an Erasmus+ student at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. ✨👇

🚀 From the moment I set foot on campus, I knew I was in for an unforgettable adventure. The university provided a vibrant and inclusive learning environment, with top-notch professors who not only shared their expertise but also fostered a sense of curiosity and exploration.

One of the highlights of my time in the Netherlands was immersing myself in the local culture with my two friends, Yllka Dibrani and Shpend Kokolli. The friendships we formed with fellow Erasmus students and locals alike were truly special, as we bonded over shared experiences and created lifelong connections. 💚

My Erasmus venture in the Netherlands stands out as a pivotal chapter in my academic journey, profoundly impacting both my personal growth and academic outlook. The collaboration between the University of Pristina and Aeres University of Applied Sciences has left an indelible mark on me, broadening my horizons and enriching my perspective. 👩‍🎓

🌍 Erasmus+ offers great student exchange between the Universiteti i Prishtinës in Kosovo and Aeres University of Applied Sciences. ✨

Dyonne-Beaudine , animal and animal husbandry student, is currently doing an internship at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme. You can read her story here 👇 In addition, we welcomed 3 students from the University of Prishtina at Aeres University for the first time this year. You can read that story later on our socials!

Dyonne-Beaudine came into contact with the International Office in Prishtina through our International Office and was offered the opportunity to do her internship there.

🗣️ "I love different languages and cultures, and this internship offered me the freedom and opportunities I was looking for," says Dyonne-Beaudine.

During her internship, Dyonne-Beaudine is doing research, exploring opportunities for collaboration with Dutch universities, and participating in PhD activities ☀️. "What I like most is the combination of working on research projects and participating in the Summer School of Prishtina," she adds.

What has Dyonne-Beaudine learned so far? 👉 "Mainly the culture and mentality of the people here. The hospitality and friendliness are impressive, and I have learned a lot about Kosovo's history and challenges. I have also improved my English and picked up some Albanian words!"

"These experiences would not have been possible without the Erasmus+ scholarship. I am also looking forward to travelling back to the Netherlands by train and to discovering even more cultures."

Dyonne-Beaudine's adventure in Kosovo is a great example of how international internships contribute to personal and professional growth. 🌍✨

✨ Kverneland Group involves our students in Smart Farming technology! 🚀

🤝 A special collaboration where our students get the chance to gain hands-on experience with the latest Smart Farming technology.

Kverneland is closely involved in the future of farming. The company is sponsoring innovative technologies (such as the IsoMatch InDemo plug) to allow students to familiarize themselves with the latest technology. 🤖 Kverneland recently visited Aeres to witness this for themselves! 👀

During an educational day, the students started by exploring the IsoMatch Simulator. They sent tasks from the IsoMatch FarmCentre to the IsoMatch Tellus PRO terminal, which was linked to a miniature spreader for training purposes. 🎮 The highlight of the day was the field session with a Fendt tractor and the IsoMatch InDemo plug in action 🚜

Matthijs Hierink from the Agrotechnology & Management team says that "Kverneland Group's support and hands-on experience with their equipment are invaluable for our students ✨. This collaboration provides our students with first-hand experience of advanced agricultural technology and prepares them for a successful career in the agricultural industry. 🌟 Aeres attended the SEA Working Conference for Study Success Caribbean Students in Curaçao 🌟 This conference focused on promoting study success and equity for Caribbean students.

Representatives from all six Caribbean Dutch islands and several Dutch educational institutions were present. This included our own Bastiaan Pellikaan, chairman of the Aeres Executive Board, and one of our students 🙌.

The conference consisted of panel and working sessions focusing on improving the connection between secondary education and secondary vocational education (mbo)/special primary education (sbo) with respect to SEA's three focal areas:

✈️ Facilitating mobility
👨‍🎓 Better preparation for further education
💼 Research on improving the connection between education and the labour market.

The conference proved a wonderful opportunity for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices, with the ultimate aim of strengthening education and increasing opportunities for all Caribbean students.

We are proud of contributing to this conference and we remain committed to internationalisation and study success.

🌟 Proud of Our Students and Staff! 🌿🌍 The National Student Survey (NSE) results are in, and Aeres University of Applied Sciences shines brightly! ✨

Our students rate the atmosphere at Aeres UAS with an outstanding 4.38 and their study programmes with a solid 3.84 on a 5-point scale 🙌 This surpasses the national averages of 4.07 and 3.68, respectively. The dedication and expertise of our lecturers are also highly appreciated, scoring significantly above the national average.

Director Martine van Tilburg says, "Our small-scale, personal approach allows for strong connections between students and lecturers. We are very proud of these results and will continue to cherish and build upon them."

🌏✈️ Recently, Taco Medema, Lecturer in Economics, Management and Agribusiness, and Wieke Hetsen, Team and Programme Manager of the Department of International Studies & Consultancy from Aeres University of Applied Sciences made an inspiring trip to Taiwan! 🇹🇼

During their visit to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources 🌱 of the 國立中興大學 National Chung Hsing University in Taichung, they worked on strengthening the ties between NCHU and Aeres in Dronten. Their trip was all about internationalisation and knowledge exchange. 🤝

During their stay, Taco and Wieke gave a presentation on the thriving world of international food business and shared new didactic models with fellow lecturers. 👩‍🏫 They also taught classes to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students on topics related to food business. Additionally, they discussed how to enhance cooperation and exchange between the two institutions.

What struck them most was the friendliness and openness of their Taiwanese colleagues and the eagerness to learn of both students and lecturers. Their visit was a wonderful experience that further strengthened Aeres University of Applied Sciences' international ties. 🌏

🌱 We are proud to share a message from Arthur, a student at ESA - L'École supérieure des agricultures, who did part of his studies with us through the Erasmus programme. Arthur contributed to a research project on the Black Soldier Fly.

🔍 The challenge was to develop a sustainable storage method for larvae of the Black Soldier Fly, a promising organism in agriculture due to its high protein content.

📊 The results: After thorough testing, the students chose recycled Lidl bags as the material for larvae storage. The bags proved to be not only sustainable but also economical. It enabled the students to identify and count the larvae efficiently, confirming the effectiveness of their storage solution.

🌍 Impact: The focus on affordable and sustainable solutions contributes to eco-friendly agricultural practices while providing a cost-effective and sustainable source of protein. This project has the potential to revolutionise the way larvae are raised, especially in contexts with limited resources, such as in developing countries.

Our first Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) week was a great success! ✨

👨‍🏫 Blended Intensive Programmes (or BIPs) are an accessible way of offering students an international experience. Students receive online education and they visit the university organising the online programme. This time it was our turn to welcome visitors!

We welcomed 28 international animal husbandry and livestock students and lecturers from Germany, Finland, Latvia, Czech Republic, and Kosovo 🌏 16 of our own students helped organise this week, focusing on the topic: 'Challenges of the future-oriented livestock production in Europe' 🇪🇺

The BIP week included a conference on ethics and business acquisition, excursions to various primary and secondary companies in the agricultural sector, a farm tour organised by Dutch students, and guest lectures given by international lecturers 👨‍🌾👩‍🎓

The students enjoyed the week, which was intense but educational. They got a taste of life as an international student. We hope that in the future, they will seize the opportunity to gain more international experience 🛫

The guest lecturers too were enthusiastic. 🗣️ “I was very impressed with Aeres University of Applied Sciences, the Faculty and the students in Dronten. Your students are thoughtful, kind, passionate about agriculture in general and dairy farming in particular," said Arben Musliu, who is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Prishtina 🇽🇰.

A group of our Animal Husbandry and Livestock students will be doing internships at the University of Prishtina in June as part of our collaboration with the university and the KAMP project in Kosovo. Arben is looking forward to welcoming the students.
