KOers Introduction Day 2026 Recap! 💙

On October 2nd, we kicked off the new academic year with our KOers Introduction Day (KID)!

New and familiar faces came together to meet the 57th board and learn more about KOers and its committees. Then it was time for some fun games, followed by pizza and drinks! 🍻

And of course, everyone got to take home their very own KOers cap! 🧢

We had a great time and can’t wait for more fun activities together!✨

Last Thursday, KOers joined Staalbouwdag 2026 for an inspiring day all about steel construction! 💙

We started the morning with a student excursion, where we learned more about Brink Staalbouw, Circulairstaal, and Staalcampus, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour.

In the afternoon, we headed to the AFAS Theater in Leusden for the main event, including the announcement of the Steel Award winners!

We ended the day with a closing drink, giving us the chance to connect with fellow students and professionals.

✨ This week at KOers ✨
We’ve got a full week coming up! 💙

Today, 12 October, TNO will give a lunch lecture on wind-induced vibrations in tall buildings. Okke Bronkhorst will explain how these vibrations affect comfort, concentration and productivity, and how new design guidelines are being developed. 🏙️

On Wednesday, 14 October, it’s time for something completely different: Pumpkin Carving! 🎃✨ Come by for a cozy autumn evening with pumpkins, snacks, drinks and good company. And of course, there will be a prize for the best creation 🏆

Finally, on Thursday, 15 October, VeriCon will take us through the Smart Mobility Hub in Amsterdam, a multifunctional project combining parking, sports facilities, offices and public space, bringing along some interesting structural challenges. 🏗️

A little bit of engineering, a little bit of creativity, and plenty of KOers this week. See you there! 💙

Excursion recap: Breman Roermond with WSP

On 29 September, we visited the Breman Roermond project together with WSP.
We started the afternoon with a presentation about the design and construction of the project, followed by a guided tour of the construction site. It was a great opportunity to see how CLT floors and walls, glulam beams, columns and bracing are actually used in practice.
A very interesting afternoon full of timber engineering, construction insights and a closer look at how the structural design comes together on site.

Lunch Lecture VeriCon 💙

On 15 October, Patrick Aarts from VeriCon will take us through the Smart Mobility Hub in Amsterdam, a multifunctional project where the smart use of space creates some interesting structural challenges.

During the lecture, you’ll get a closer look at one of the structural highlights of the project and learn more about VeriCon’s role in the engineering process.

Join us on 29 September for an exciting excursion to Breman Roermond in collaboration with WSP!

Discover how timber structures come together in practice, with a presentation on the design and construction process followed by a guided tour of the construction site.

The project features CLT floors and walls, glulam beams, columns and diagonal bracing, giving you the chance to see modern timber engineering up close.

Together with CHEOPS, KOers will visit the National Steel Construction Day on 8 October at the AFAS Theater in Leusden!

Expect a full day focused on the latest developments and trends in steel construction and infrastructure, with plenty of opportunities to learn more about the industry.

SCIA Workshop 💻
Want to get started with SCIA Engineer or improve your skills for your structural design projects?
Join us for the SCIA Workshop on 7 October!
The workshop consists of two sessions:
🔹 09:30–12:30: Introduction to the basic functionalities of SCIA Engineer
🔹 13:00–16:30: Topics related to the Design Project

Students taking Geotechnics, Soil Mechanics and Structural Dynamics in Q2 are also highly encouraged to join the morning session, as SCIA will be used for an assignment in the course.

✨ A full week ahead at KOers! ✨

On Tuesday, 29 September, we’re heading to Roermond for the WSP excursion, where we’ll get a closer look at timber engineering and the construction process in practice. 🏗️🌲

Then on Thursday, 1 October, Nebest will join us for a lunch lecture on advanced radar inspection of concrete structures, with practical examples of how this technology is used to investigate and monitor concrete.

And to finish the week, Friday, 2 October is all about KID – KOers Introduction Day! 🎉
An afternoon filled with food, drinks, games and the perfect opportunity to get to know KOers and your fellow students.
