Lunchlecture VeriCon

Join us tomorrow during the break for a lunchlecture by VeriCon. Chris Does will take us through the design process of an ambitious private villa, where architecture and structural engineering continuously push each other’s limits.

Discover how structural engineers tackle challenges such as large spans, cantilevers, and invisible structures, and learn which innovative solutions make ambitious designs possible.

Later that day, it’s time for the annual KOers x Mollier Beerpong Tournament. Join KOers as we take on Mollier in the battle for study association glory and defend our title!

On Thursday, VeriCon will host a Lunchlecture. Chris Does will discuss the design process of an ambitious private villa and show how structural engineers turn challenging architectural ambitions into reality.

Lunch Lecture Wagemaker

Tomorrow during the break, Wagemaker will give a lunchlecture on Applied Investigations in Structural Engineering Practice.

Discover how structural engineering goes beyond designing new structures, and learn more about the challenges involved in existing civil structures and renovation projects in the Netherlands. From in-depth investigations to practical problem solving, this lecture offers a look into some of the most impactful challenges in engineering practice.

This week:

On Wednesday, it’s finally time for the Sexy Sectie Party! The Built Environment associations are joining forces once again for one of the most unforgettable parties of the year. With this year’s theme: Football.

On Thursday, Wagemaker will host a Lunchlecture on Applied Investigations in Structural Engineering Practice. Discover how existing structures and renovation projects require much more than standard textbook engineering.

And looking ahead to next Monday: it’s time for HEEL KOERS BAKT! 🍰 Bring your best homemade baking creation, taste everyone’s treats, and compete for the title of KOers’ star baker.

We had the opportunity to visit the ‘Project Weesperzijde 190’ together with Solid Services BV and Vastint Netherlands B.V. with our study association.

The day started with a lunch and an opening presentation, in which Vastint presented the overall vision of the project, including the renovation of the façade and the addition of two extra levels to the existing building. Afterwards, Solid Services, introduced us to the main structural challenges of the project. It was interesting to learn more about the complexity of transforming an existing structure while keeping both functionality and sustainability in mind.
After the presentations, we were given a tour around the project site, where we could see the ongoing works up close. During the tour, explanations were given about the construction process and its effects on the existing structure. Seeing the project in real life helped us better understand the scale and complexity of the renovation.
We concluded the visit with drinks and the opportunity to talk further with the professionals from Solid Services and Vastint.

A big thank you to Solid Services and Vastint for the warm welcome and the interesting insights into this impressive renovation project!

Ever wanted to try welding yourself? Together with Raul from Castillo Lastechniek, KOers is organizing a hands-on welding workshop!

During the workshop, you’ll learn the theoretical basics of welding and get the chance to try it yourself in practice, no prior experience needed.

The workshop will take place in two shifts and there are only 20 spots available, so make sure to sign up quickly. First come, first serve!

This week:

Today, we’re visiting Utrecht together with Van Rossum for the Excursion Merwede Blok 8. After a presentation about the project and its structural challenges, we’ll get a tour over the construction site.

On Wednesday, KOers will compete in the Pusphaira Outdoor Football Tournament ⚽. Whether you’re playing for fun or going for the win, it promises to be a great afternoon full of football, drinks, and fun.

We finish the week on Thursday with the Abaqus Workshop, where you can learn the basics of finite element analysis and get started with Abaqus.

Last month we went on a timber excursion as part of the Advanced Timber Structures course.

In the morning, we visited DERIX in Niederkrüchten, where we learned more about CLT and glulam structures. We got a presentation about their projects and a tour through the factory, with a strong focus on sustainability.
After lunch, we travelled back to the Netherlands to visit Isobouw in Someren, where we learned more about EPS insulation materials and their production process.
