Kai Chen, Treasurer 💰

I am Kai, a second-year Master’s student, and I will be the Treasurer of the 17th Board of AnArchi this year. I recently finished my Bachelor of Architecture in Taiwan.

Moving here from my hometown has given me the chance to see architecture from new perspectives and meet people with very different backgrounds. That experience shaped one of my core beliefs: studying architecture should never be only about buildings. It should also be about understanding people, learning how they live, and building the ability to connect with others.

Architecture becomes meaningful when it grows from real conversations, shared experiences, and the relationships we build along the way. Concepts such as community building, spatial culture, and architectural identity guide a lot of how I think.
As Treasurer, I hope to support the board in a reliable and transparent way, ensuring our plans and ambitions translate into concrete activities and opportunities for our members. I look forward to meeting everyone, being present at events, and getting to know more of the community throughout the year.

I am excited to contribute to AnArchi and to help create an environment where people feel welcome, involved, and inspired.

Alara Piroğlu, Secretary & Commissioner of Professional Relations 📝🤝

My name is Alara, and I am a second-year Master’s student in Architecture. I will take on the roles of Secretary and Commissioner of Professional Relations this year.

My passion for architecture started when I was a kid. One time, when I was building sandcastles with my dad’s uncle, an architect, he did something with the sand that I had never thought of before. I still remember how mesmerised I was that day, watching how imagination could transform something so simple into something so beautiful. That day was the beginning of a long journey that led me here, shaping my curiosity and love for architecture and design and giving me most of my inspiration from nature.

I did my Bachelor’s in Bordeaux, France. Two years ago, after earning my degree, I decided to move here to Eindhoven to pursue my Master’s degree. At the very beginning of the school year, I discovered AnArchi, and I immediately became an active member. Being part of this association, meeting plenty of kind and nice people, being a part of this beautiful community and organising the Architecture and Urbanism Awards last year inspired me to join the 17th Board of AnArchi. This year, I am really excited to develop my networking skills, to collaborate on new projects, and to meet more people along the way.

Besides my studies, I like going to the gym, spending time with my friends, colouring, and reading. I also love listening to good music, cooking and spending time outdoors, whether it is biking around the city or simply sitting in the park to relax.

I am very excited to be a part of this year’s board and hope to make lots of good memories!

Maria Barbu, Chairperson & Commissioner of Study Trip 🪑🚞

I am Maria, and I am currently in the third year of my Bachelor’s degree. I have wanted to become an architect for as long as I can remember, and looking back, many of the choices I made naturally led me in that direction. Travelling from a young age made me curious about why places can feel so different and how architecture reflects local culture, climate and ways of living.

My time at TU/e has shaped me a lot, both personally and academically. It has made me even more certain of my love for architecture, while also giving me the chance to explore the field in many ways through my studies, committees, the Honors Academy, and architectural competitions. Along the way, I have met many different people, challenged myself and discovered new sides of the field.

As part of the 17th Board of AnArchi, I am very excited to give something back to the community that welcomed me so warmly last year. Architecture and urbanism already bring together people with similar interests and ambitions, but I think an association can turn those shared interests into a much closer and more supportive community.

As Chairperson, I will be one of the main points of contact for our members and ensure the well-being of both the association and the board. You will see me quite a lot around Vertigo and at our activities. I will also be the Commissioner of Study Trip. After serving as Chairperson of the Study Trip Committee last year, I am excited to build on that experience and help create another trip full of interesting places and many unforgettable memories.

In both of my roles, I want to stay closely connected to our members and help make AnArchi feel like a place where people are comfortable joining, participating and bringing in their own ideas. I hope I can help more students discover the opportunities within the association and feel encouraged to get involved. I am excited to take on the two roles, and I am looking forward to everything we will create together this year!
