Groep-één

Groep-één Groep-één is a student party of the University Council of the Eindhoven University of Technology, representing all TU/e students.

Student party Groep-één was formed from the former TH-één and Groep 2000. Late 1997 these two parties merged, after which the staff members split off into TU-één. Since then Groep-één has been the party for and by students. Every year the fraction members of Groep-één put in their effort to represent all TU/e students at the highest level of co-determination of the university. Groep-één stands for

a good and healthy student culture, in which there is ample opportunity for students to develop themselves in a broader way than just taking courses. However, Groep-één also understands the financial and performance pressure to complete studies in 3 years and therefore believes that the studying environment should be healthy, especially regarding study pressure and stress levels. In general, Groep-één finds it important that all TU/e students, both active and less active, are properly represented at the university. By aiming for an absolute majority in the University Council, Groep-één intends to have enough manpower to do everything that needs to be done to realize this very important goal, every year. In September 2019, Groep-één merged with the Eindhovense StudentenRaad (ESR), another party of the university council, because the standpoints of the two parties were so similar that even the fraction members themselves could not explain the difference. For the December 2019 Elections, the party was called ‘Groep-één | ESR’ to make clear that the values of both Groep-één and ESR were represented in the new party's campaign. After many discussions with relevant stakeholders it was decided to continue under the name ‘Groep-één’, but to upgrade the logo, subscript, and branding to make them look more modern. Hence Groep-één: Representing TU/e Students was born and is here to represent you in the University Council!

𝗨𝗖 𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 Monday 25 October

This Monday, we had a very productive UC meeting with the majority of questions asked by Groep-één
- The new 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗨/𝗲 was discussed.
- We asked questions about the new 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 🤗 of TU/e. With our questions we made sure that the impact and scope of the plan will be broadened, and we as Groep-één will contribute to this.
- Investigation starts whether and ombudsperson is needed at TU/e 🤓
- At last, we asked about the fuss on the 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🏳️‍🌈The executive board admitted that it was very unfortunate that the art committee acted the way they did, and ensured that it was a one-timer event. A well-defined symbol for diversity will be placed on campus soon! 🥳❤️

Hope to see you next time UC meeting where the student team vision and exchange for Q3 and Q4 is discussed! 🍀

University Council Monday 27 September 🕺🏼🦆🐥

Yesterday, the first UCM of the new academic year took place. There was a lot on the agenda:

- 🎓The new bachelor college evaluation and revisionplan was approved with several conditions set by the UC. Groep-één negotiated a lot previous weeks to ensure that the new plan will become a real improvement compared to the current bachelor college. 📚🎉

- ✅Achieved to include a student in the strategic meetings of the bachelor college to ensure more student input ☑️

- 🍃Got confirmed that sustainability will have a more fundamental place in the coming implementationplan (5-year policy of TU/e) 🌿🌱

- 🚪Discussed the shortage of housing for (international) students on the short term and the lack of solutions for this. Agreed upon starting the discussion to come up with solutions for this. 🏠

𝗜𝗡𝗣𝗨𝗧 𝗦𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬! 🌱

Dear followers! Tomorrow we will have the first 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 session of the year 😊. In these informal input sessions, we get together with students to ask their opinions and ideas on a certain topic. The fraction will then use your feedback to represent you (and others!) in the University Council. 💪🏽

Tomorrow's (Wednesday 15th) core group meeting will be about 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Should the university take up the responsibility to become more sustainable? And if so, in what ways? 🤔

Everyone is welcome to drop by and share their opinions. 💛 Hope to see you tomorrow!

Groep-één has achieved an improvement of the situation for non-EEA students (non-European students) who want to do a board year! 💪🏼

Previously, non-EEA students received the same compensation for a board year as non-EEA students. However, because their tuition fees are much higher, doing a board year was unrealistic for most of these students. 💸

Las year, Groep-één pushed for compensation of these differences. This modified reimbursement has now been included in the Student Financial Support Regulations. 👏🏻

This makes it possible for all students to develop themselves within a student board and contribute to a connected student community at our university! 🌍 It is a great step forward in the inclusion of international students at TU/e. 💛

TU/eXTRA is an initiative from TU/e to encourage students to participate in 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 during their studies 💪🏼. There are various ways to develop yourself besides studying theory, and numerous associations where you can grow! 🌷

For example, you can work in a committee, take up a board role or join a student team. Perhaps you are already doing one of these things. Nonetheless, TU/eXTRA can definitely give you a broad view of all the possibilities! 🥽

Our own fraction member Boris Zwaan actually wrote an article in Cursor TU Eindhoven about boards and student teams. He discusses how the university should compensate students for their extracurricular work 💭. For this interesting read, check the link in our bio! 💛

𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟎𝟕-𝟎𝟔-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏
Yesterday, the last University Council meeting of this academic year took place. It also was the last time Ralph van Ierland joined the meeting, who now leaves the council after 1,5 years. This meeting, quite some achievements were made:

- Groep-één arranged to increase 𝘣𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 for non-EEA students (students coming outside of Europe) 💪🏾
- The Executive Board thanked Groep-één for helping them recognize the efforts 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 have done during the pandemic for the student community. The executive board is now looking into what is the best way to thank them. 🤗
- We talked about the 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯 after the summer and ensured to put social and extracurricular activities in a more central position of on-campus time 👍🏻

We furthermore asked questions about:
- Usage of a vaccination proof at TU/e, 📄
- The student-staff ratio, 👨🏼‍🎓
- The new master Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, 🧠
- Decentralized selection in the Bachelor programs, 👀
- ‘Studentenregeerakkoord’ by Interstedelijk Studenten Overleg - ISO. 📕

After the activity, the fraction had a beer together and made a group picture (at a safe distance 😉)!
