DAG 2 WATERSTOF HACKATHON. ZO ZAG DIE ERUIT.

We gingen met een volle bus richting de Eemshaven. Daar waar àlles op giga-schaal samenkomt. Waar het écht gebeurt.

Bij Phynix doken we in hoe waterstof wordt geproduceerd en toegepast. Van opwekking tot gebruik. Grote installaties, serieuze capaciteit, en vooral, een helder beeld van hoe de energie van morgen vandaag al wordt gebouwd.

Terug in Groningen gingen de deelnemers helemaal los met de nieuwe inspiratie.
- Teams die hun ideeën aanscherpen.
- Concepten die ineens concrete oplossingen worden.
- Schetsen die veranderen in concrete plannen.
En morgen gaat alles gepitcht worden aan de mensen die hier dagelijks aan werken.

De energie zit hoog. En daar ligt de lat ook!
Morgen is het zo ver; we kunnen niet wachten!

A special shout-out to our fantastic mobility partners, CommShare by Pouwrent Autoverhuur, Friesland Lease BV and Van den Brug! 🚗✨ Their enormous (yet silent) contribution to The Green Business Challenge 2023 is immeasurable. With one hydrogen car and a fleet of electric vehicles, they made our 5-day, 5-city journey possible, turning this pressure cooker challenge into an incredible and unforgettable road trip for our participants. Thanks to these mobility partners, our organization and media team could go wherever necessary to capture every moment. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible.

✨🌍 Today marked the grand finale of the Green Business Challenge in Emmen—a day filled with celebration and innovation! 🎉 This morning was all about final preparations as our talented students fine-tuned their pitches for the momentous event. At 14:00, the 'ball' was officially opened by our hostess and main event-organizer Anna Vellinga.

🌟 Alderman of Emmen, Guido Rink, extended a warm welcome to our esteemed guests, expressing gratitude to our incredible partners who played a crucial role in making the Challenge a reality. Then, it was showtime! Our students pitched their hearts out, showcasing the brilliant and creative solutions born from days of dedicated work.

💚 Let's extend a huge shout-out to our newly appointed Green Business Ambassadors: Jarno Meul and Emilio Munoz! Congratulations!

🚀 The energy was touchable, a testament to the immense effort and passion poured into each project. As the pitches concluded, a surprise echoed through the room—the announcement of Green Business Challenge 2024! The anticipation is already building, and we can hardly wait for the next chapter of innovation and sustainability.

🚀 Today was a blast in Oldenburg, Germany, hosted by ZUKUNFT.unternehmen! 🌍🇩🇪 It marked the last day of intense challenge work for our amazing students. Tomorrow is the big day—the pitches! 🎤🌟 They sharpened their storytelling skills, mastering the art of epic pitches and presentations. All afternoon was dedicated to perfecting their pitches, and the excitement is reaching its peak! 📈🌟

🌳🪵 Last but not least, our sixth case owner: De Oude Zagerij

As a startup with a rich 7-year journey, they've been transforming centuries-old oak planks into furniture and innovative interior applications. Now, as 'Circular Wood Company Name,' they're on a mission to supply reused (circular) wood and production materials to a growing market.
🌍 Committed to sustainability and aligning with the Netherlands' Climate Agreement, they aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 1990). Through precise dismantling, collaboration with partners like Bork and local production, they're not just preserving wood but locking in stored CO2.

The challenge: “Develop 5 product-market combinations that enable use of circular wood.”

Meet our Case Owner: Marne Mosterd!

De Marne's Fabrieken, a proud Groningen company, values craftsmanship and has been globally supplying exceptional mustard for years. Beyond mustard, their portfolio includes consumer oils, wines, liqueurs, eggnog, fruit juices, and table acids, showcasing a rich history and a forward-looking commitment to success.

🌿 One of Marne Mosterd's core values is "Respect for people and the environment." Now, they're extending this commitment to mustard production. In the mustard-making process, husks from the seeds create a residual stream. For this Green Business Challenge edition, Marne Mosterd is on a mission to explore processing opportunities for this residual stream.

🚀 The challenge: “Help Marne Mustard identify and assess opportunities to upgrade a food residue stream.”
