❓Why Contact the Program Committee (PC)?

The Program Committee is the top academic oversight body for IRIO, consisting of six students and six faculty members. Its primary responsibility is to ensure the quality of the IRIO BA and MA programs. But when and why should you contact the PC? Read on…

Come to the PC…

-> if you have concerns about how a course fits into the IRIO program
-> if you have concerns about the overall quality of the IRIO program
-> if you have concerns about how the IRIO program is preparing you for the labor market or further academic study.

Examples of topics the PC can address…

- Workload: is it too high or too low?
- Study delays: is a course causing many students to get stuck in their progression toward a degree?
- Internationalization: does a course have a discriminatory impact on one group of students (either Dutch or international)?

Topics the PC can NOT address…

- Anything related to assessment falls under the purview of the Board of Examiners rather than the PC.
- Individual-level concerns are better addressed to specific lecturers, the study advisors, and the relevant coordinators. The PC is meant to address program-wide concerns.
- The PC is not responsible for the first half of the teaching and exam regulations, which are determined at the faculty level.

❗️Important note:

Issues should be addressed first to course and program coordinators before being brought directly to the program committee. However, if concerns are not being addressed by the coordinators (or you do not feel comfortable presenting those concerns), the PC is where to turn. You can contact the student members of the PC through Facebook – or send an email straight to the PC Secretary at the email address provided.

***VACANCY***

Dear IRIO-student,

The Programme Committee (PC) is looking for successors for the academic year 2019-2020! The PC is a consultative body that deals with guaranteeing the quality of education. This is done by giving advice to, or agreeing with, proposals from the Faculty Board and the Cluster Board. This includes, among other things, curriculum changes, course manuals, the internationalization of the programme and the Teaching and Examination Regulations. Every year, the PC consists of six lecturers and six students from both the IRIO bachelor as the IRIO master programmes. Four of the student seats are meant for senior bachelor’s students, one for a first-year student and one for a master’s student.

Right now, the PC is looking for enthusiastic students who would like to take a seat in the PC next year. As either a bachelor student or a master student, you can choose the students that are going to represent you, but if you feel the ambition to speak out you can be one of those four yourself. In order to nominee yourself, you have to be registered with the IRIO course in the academic year 2019-2020.

Why would you want to be part of the PC? You can decide what our course looks like, it’s good on your resume and you get the opportunity to work together with the lecturers. Does it seem fun and challenging to you to shape the future of our course and do you want to be part of the student’s representation of all IRIO students? Send a short motivation letter of about 100 words, together with a photo of yourself, to [email protected] before July 15th, 2019. The workload for this committee is perfectly doable next to your studies and other activities, so do not let other obligations get in the way!

If you have any additional questions regarding the programme committee, please do not hesitate to send an email to [email protected].

Kind regards,
The Programme Committee 2018-2019

Dear TIR students of 2015/16,

As many of you complained about the TIR module during and after the last semester, the Programme Committee has addressed some of your concerns during our last meeting on January 26th. To this end, we invited Mr Humrich, the course coordinator, to discuss complaints and consider ways and means to make the course easier for the students. Therefore, with your feedback, we can encourage a change in the layout of the block, if not even of the whole semester, in order to make our study experience even more enjoyable. Thank you very much in advance for your help.
