The Faculty of Arts invites you to documentary film screenings and discussions after.

The Cost of Growth | Doc Screening + After-talk | 24Feb. 19:00-21.30

🎞️The Cost of Growth (2025) challenges and confronts the story of Europe’s economic growth by exposing the extractive systems it relies on and focusing on the communities that pay the price of economic growth around the world.

🎞️Landscapes Under Pressure | Doc Screening & After-Talk | 26th Feb. 19:00-21.30

This programme brings together two powerful documentaries that explore the relationship between land, resources, and responsibility - locally and globally.

Niger Delta: Oiled and Abandoned (27 min), a powerful documentary told by Niger Deltans themselves: fishermen, farmers, activists, and community leaders who have lived through decades of pollution and neglect.

Bodem in Beweging (Soil on the Move) (52 min) explores the often-invisible role of soil in times of ecological crisis. The documentary follows scientists, farmers, and innovators who are rethinking how we use, exhaust, and regenerate the ground beneath our feet, drawing attention to urgent questions around sustainability and responsibility.

Due to the icy conditions, we weren’t able to meet last time but we now have a new date: February 25! 🌱
Because the cold weather is still ongoing, we’ll wait a little longer before sowing the beans. Don’t worry, it will happen soon! In the meantime, come meet us, make some new friends, and learn more about the garden. 💚

🌿Green Good News🌿

🌊The High Seas Treaty came into force - incredible achievement for ocean conservation. Treaty will provide the framework to establish marine protected areas, regulate the exploitation of marine genetic resources and assess the environmental impact of current and future human activities.

⚡️Finland’s solution to industrial heat emissions: Finnish cleantech startup, TheStorage turns clean electricity into high-temperature heat and stores it in sand.

✅The EU passed a green energy “tipping point” in 2025: when renewable energy accounted for more than energy from fossil fuels.

🧪France bans the “forever chemicals” (or PFAS) due to their extreme persistence in the environment. The law prohibits the sale, production, or import of PFAS-containing products where safer alternatives already exist. This comes in a wider EU framework of a comprehensive restriction among member states by 2030.

🌱The new block recently started!
We always talk about sustainability in terms of how we treat the world around us. But sustainability is a lifestyle —it also includes to how we treat ourselves. Just like the Earth’s resources, our internal energy isn’t infinite.

If the last block felt heavy or draining, you aren’t alone, it happens to the best of us. However, we can try to implement some changes in our behavior. Sustainability means building habits that we can actually keep up without burning out.

 This national event brings together people, universities, and organizations from across the Netherlands to raise awareness about climate change and to call for effective and fair climate policies.
