Hi, my name is Tim Stapper, and I was chairman of the MARUG from 2023 to 2024.
My board year began with a simple question: “Would you consider becoming the next Chairman of MARUG?”
One year later, I stepped away with hands-on leadership experience, a broader professional network, lasting memories, and strong friendships with my fellow board members.
Together with an ambitious and dedicated board, we organized a wide range of events, including the MARUG Conference, the Recruitment Days, the MARUG ski trip, an international marketing trip to Lisbon, and an in-house tour in Berlin, among many others. Leading the board and overseeing MARUG’s committees taught me not only how to guide others, but also how to take responsibility and ownership.
This experience, apart from being a lot of fun, accelerated my personal and professional development. It strengthened my leadership skills, built my confidence in decision-making, and taught me how to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
In my current role as a business consultancy trainee at ABN AMRO, I apply these skills on a daily basis. I contribute to large-scale projects within the bank, ranging from innovation and organizational change to bank-wide strategic implementations.
Looking back, my board year taught me a lot: it taught me how to take responsibility and ownership within a team of ambitious students. Above all, the most valuable outcome is that, to this day, I still regularly meet with my fellow board members.
