Filmarchive of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen

Filmarchive of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen In December 2010, a group of people passionate about cinema, film studies, and/or film techniques —among which Ing. J. Stadtman, Dr. A.M.A.

van den Oever, and interns Daphne and Rob—has initiated disclosing the Film Archive that was donated to the University Library of Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. As of March this year, a second group of interns (Mariska, Erik, and Anne) have taken over the assistance in further disclosing the cinematic treasures hidden in the archive. Our deepest gratitude goes to Tjitte de Vries for his donations.

Hey everyone!

Some interesting events are coming up and we would like to make you aware of them.

First, this Thursday (the 23th of January), Studium Generale will organize a lecture on music in films.
The lecture will focus on the importance of music within a film, and will be held by Kevin Toma, a film critic and columnist.
It looks like the lecture will be in Dutch, so it might be less interesting for non Dutch-speaking people. This is the link to the site with further information: http://studium.hosting.rug.nl/Programma/Filmmuziek.html

Secondly, next week on Friday the 31th of January, the Grand Theatre will show a movie from the silent era: "7th Heaven" accompanied with live music by Kevin Toma.

Finally, next week on Saturday the 1th of February, the Grand Theatre will show the famous movie "Metropolis" (1927) accompanied with live music played by Gijs van Schoonhoven on an organ in the Aa-kerk.

Hello everyone!

Monday 9 December the Film Archive will organize an animation marathon in cooperation with the Deep Focus Film Club. The main reason for the marathon is that the Film Archive has just received a new animation collection and we want to draw your attention to this. The marathon is a great opportunity to show you some films of the collection we have. It will start at 8 p.m. in the Film Archive. We hope to see you all there!

Kind regards, the Film Archive

The Front Door of our archive; we have passed it many times the last few weeks with cases full of projectors, films and lamps.

Today we started moving the literature from the old basement to the archive. These places keep reminding me of playing computer games in which the basement is full of blood-thirsty monsters. Here it's just dead spiders...happily ;)
