The good news? At Café de las Lenguas, forgetting a name is completely normal. We speak dozens of languages, meet new people every week, and occasionally experience a tartle or two.

Join us every Thursday from 7–9 PM at the Harmony Building to practise a language, meet people from around the world, and hopefully remember each other’s names.

Treppenwitz.

Literally: “staircase joke.”

You leave the conversation, walk down the stairs, and suddenly think of exactly what you should have said.

If you’ve ever practised a conversation in your head after it ended, congratulations: you’ve experienced Treppenwitz.

We’re just saying there’s a better alternative.

A new academic year has started, and so has the annual tradition of saying “I’ll just stay for 10 minutes” and leaving two hours later.

☕ Café de las Lenguas is back!

Fun fact: Spanish has a word, sobremesa, for the time spent chatting around the table after a meal is finished. Not eating. Not drinking. Just enjoying the conversation.

We don’t serve dinner, but somehow we always end up in a sobremesa. No food. No plans. Just conversations that refuse to end. Honestly, that’s probably the most accurate description of Café de las Lenguas every Thursday.

We’re back in the Harmony Building and ready for another year of languages, cultures, conversations, and the occasional creative use of grammar.

Whether you’re learning a new language, looking for more speaking practice, or simply willing to help others in your native language, you’re warmly welcome to join us.
