O projeto inclui um estágio a realizar no centro internacional de excelência ERIBA - European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing, University of Groningen, Países Baixos.

The shortest way to become very old? Very strict calorie counting. This is how it works with mice. Why does eating less increase life expectancy?

And does that also work for humans?

See the link for the interview Cor Calkhoven, Pol Grootswagers and Riekelt Houtkooper had with NEMO-kennislink. (in Dutch)

De kortste weg naar héél oud worden? Héél streng calorieën tellen. Zo werkt het althans bij muizen. Waarom rekt minder eten de levensverwachting op? En werkt dat ook voor ons mensen?

Ninfa Fluida is selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2024!

This experimental documentary is made by filmmaker Ugo Petronin, and includes a collaboration with Stijn Mouton and filming at ERIBA.

The film is an ode to the symbiotic relationship between water and imagination. It blends microscopic cinematography, poetry, and molecular biology.

🇬🇧 In the Foijer lab, we are interested in aneuploidy, which is often the result of errors in mitosis (cell division). Due to these errors, cells can gain or lose chromosomes. But to understand what can go wrong, we first want to show you how it goes right: the magic of mitosis! Tune in next time to see how errors in this process can lead to aneuploidy, and why we study it!

📢 In a joint effort, researchers from ERIBA (Veenhoff Lab) and BSCS (Kampinga & Bergink Labs) show that a chaperone can safeguard the disordered proteins from the Nuclear Pore Complex to prevent them from aggregating together.

Check out the paper ⬇️

Kuiper et al. and Prophet et al. implicate DNAJB6/HSP70 chaperone activities in the biogenesis of the nuclear pore complex permeability barrier and find that disease-linked nuclear envelope blebs are enriched in nucleoporin and chaperone condensates.

Meet the research group Genomic Instability in Development and Disease, led by Floris Foijer.

Our research group consists of a diverse group of ambitious postdocs, Ph.D. students, technicians, and a bioinformatician. We study how cancer cells respond to chromosomal instability (CIN) and the resulting aneuploidy, both hallmark features of cancer cells.

As CIN and aneuploidy are poorly tolerated by normal cells, we investigate how cancer cells with CIN adapt to tolerate CIN and furthermore how CIN contributes to cancer cell evolution. We aim to translate our findings into clinical applications to target aneuploid cancers more effectively.

Don’t know what CIN and aneuploidy are? Keep posted for more information about this really interesting topic!
