The international MA in Fine Art and Design with 4 internationally recognised and accredited study programmes to choose from: Painting, MADtech, iRAP and MADAM, each full-time, spanning 2 years, and credit-rated at 120 credits (ECTS). This master's programme is offered by the Frank Mohr Institute (FMI) at the Minerva Art Academy (Hanze UAS) in Groningen, the Netherlands. Whether you are an artist,

designer or performer, our study programmes offer an experimental and critical environment in which to further envisage and shape your ideas. As a contemporary artist, free-thinking and experimental designer or performer, you are not necessarily confined to a single field. You can use traditional means and media as well as new technologies, or a combination of both. Operating from an exploratory mindset, you will investigate the media, technology and content you need to understand, imagine and shape your ideas. Our study programmes give you every opportunity to sharpen your artistic vision, find new pathways and discover uncharted territory.

Last week, our MADtech students, both first-year and second-year, went on an adventurous field trip to the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria. (Especially adventurous due to the journey 👀)

We're all about fostering a tight-knit community here at FMI, and this field trip was the perfect opportunity for our students to connect, share ideas, and get to know each other. The trip helped create a shared reference point for our academic journey. We’re looking forward to the next academic year together!

☀️Looking back at the works of graduates - Kalina Schneider
(iRAP)

“Resting, Moving, Feeding.
During the exhibition I did three different kinds of public interventions in the form of pop up performances surrounding the topic of care. How do we find space for care in this fast pace society. Graduation exhibitions are a microcosm of our busy city life. I wanted to play around with that, can I get people to rest, to care, to listen to the needs of themselves and their surroundings?”

Kalina's practice explores relationships as challenges of human intimacy, investigating their complex and delicate nuances. In her projects and installations, the dilemmas circling the proper navigation of connections and bonds are met and confronted through themes of consent and vulnerability. She touches topics related to privacy, safety and freedom, and the resulting spectrum between comfort and harm produced by their (mis)handling.

🌿A spring throwback

This spring, Annika Hardy .c.hardy (Painting, year one) left Groningen to explore a hidden spot for artists in the North - Bierumer School
She was an artist-in-residence there for several weeks and concluded her stay with an exhibition open for the public.

“As a painter, I am interested in the boundaries and possibilities of drawing and painting in different media and with different materials. I also think about how space changes the viewer's experience. That is why I was excited to work with and in the space of the Bierumer School and nature around it.
I based my exhibition on a kind of "what if" game about how the surrounding landscape would change if the main visual features were created not by humans but by animals. From this I create sculptures of metallic fabric, digital drawings, projections of drawings and prints and combine them into one installation that connects the space in the attic with the space downstairs.” - says Annika.
