Projects | Maps | Analysis How can we enhance your research? Questions or ideas?

We can help you with researchdata, Geographical Information Systems or help with (spatial)analysis. Usually we can help you right away! The geodienst is a geo technology startup within the Centre for Informationtechnology. Our daily work consists of research and innovation support. Supporting with Geo-data, GIS software, courses and performing spatial analysis and solving problems. Innovation in projects with various partners. As geo-geeks we are convinced that using spatial data really enhances your research and projects. With a team of around 6 people we work trough 100-200 calls a month from different faculties and sometimes from the Hanze Hogeschool or other partners. In 2014 we supported over 10 scientific publications. We supported projects in the fiels of Healthy ageing, Energy, Sustainability, Ecology, History, Disaster Risk Managment and many more. Curious about gathering field data through engaging public interaction? Join our workshop!

You’ll learn how to create a simple geo-app for data collection that shares insights directly with the public. This tool can be applied as a survey with a geographical component, while also enabling you with expanded ways of analyzing the data and sharing this with your focus group.

The topics for data collection are wide-ranging, from favorite or less-loved spots in the city to photos of plants or animal counts. The data can be enriched by adding textual descriptions or rating scales.

Join our course ‘Bring your research into the spotlight: Tell your story with Storymapping’.

Tuesday 8 October
13:00-16:30
House of Connections, Grote Markt 21

In this workshop we will dive into the power of maps and how they can enhance the quality of the story of your research. Frequently, researchers have intriguing data featuring geographical components that often remain unknown to a broader audience outside academia.
Maps can support the communication of your insights, while good storytelling techniques enable your audience to grasp your research better.
By combining those techniques in StoryMaps, you can give your narrative a stronger sense of place, simply illustrate relationships between places, and add visual examples such as photos or videos to your ideas.

What started as an experiment, quickly turned into a precious partnership for research and education. After ten years of digital innovation, analysis and mapping, we are eager to see the results of our work. What did we do to help accelerate university-wide research? And what is yet to come?

We have arranged a multidisciplinary programme with inspiring keynote speakers, an information market you do not want to pass up, and of course a lot of maps.

Due to the increase in the use of IT and digital aids, we are proud to announce our lustrum in collaboration with our partner: the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology and AI.

Will we also see you on 9 October during the Geodienst lustrum? Register now via the link.

Did you know the Olympics once included art contests? From 1912 to 1952, artists competed in categories like architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture, winning medals just like athletes! For instance, two arts medallists also won medals in sports at the Olympic Games. Alfred Hajós of Hungary won two swimming gold medals in 1896 and a medal for designs for town planning in 1924, and Walter Winans won running deer shooting medals in 1908 and 1912 and also won an arts gold medal in sculpture in 1912. Geodienst has created these two maps showcasing the silver and gold medals won per country.
