🗺️Seabed mapping has been widely recognized as vital for ocean science, policy, and sustainable development, highlighting GEBCO’s central role in making ocean floor data accessible. 🌊.

Last week, the GEBCO Guiding Committee (GGC42) met in Victoria, Canada, to take stock of progress in mapping the seafloor, review initiatives from the past year, and discuss next steps. In particular, the 40 participants looked at the recently adopted Strategic Plan and how to address its five pillars: , Data, , Capacity Development, and Engagement.

Ahead of the 2nd Ocean Decade Conference, GEBCO and its partners are preparing a unified strategy to highlight seabed mapping’s significance and support global efforts for accessible and sustainable ocean data 🌐.

GEBCO also co-hosted a workshop during the Ocean Floor Explore conference that looked at innovative funding models for ocean mapping. The event identified ways to secure sustainable support for global seabed mapping efforts.

The IHO Secretariat was represented by Director Luigi Sinapi, Assistant Director Samuel Harper, and Project Officer Rosa Acosta.
