University of Groningen - International Office - Faculty of Arts

University of Groningen - International Office - Faculty of Arts Margo, Sigrid, Janet, Joyce, Sven & Jolanda, welcome you to the Faculty of Arts International Office!

Have you not been vaccinated against the coronavirus yet and would you still like to? The UG, Hanze UAS and the Municipal Health Service (GGD Groningen) have arranged for all students to be able to get vaccinated easily without having to make an appointment, from Monday 16 until Friday 27 August. 💉

To do so, please go to the vaccination location at MartiniPlaza in Groningen. People between the ages of 18 and 26 can get vaccinated with the Janssen-vaccine (only one shot needed). You can stop by between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and have to bring a valid form of identification, such as your passport or EU ID card. Vaccination is always voluntary. Together we can secure a safe restart by complying with the safety rules but also by getting vaccinated.

Are you between the ages of 16 and 18 or would you like to receive a different vaccine? You’re welcome too! Then you may receive the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine at Martiniplaza, after which an appointment will be made for your second vaccination 21 days later.

After 27 August, you will, of course, still be able to get vaccinated by making an appointment with the GGD Groningen or the GGD Friesland. We are also looking at the possibility of vaccinating students without an appointment in September.

Finally, please keep checking our website rug.nl/corona for general information and updates.📍

ESN Groningen presents: Intercambio Programme

Are you interested in going abroad or are you currently on exchange in Groningen? Have you learned a new language but are you afraid of not getting enough practice? Or do you just want to try and learn a new language all together? Sign up for the intercambio programme! The goal of the project is for students to learn each other’s language and meet new people. You will be linked to another student to practice a language. There are a lot of different nationalities in Groningen so there are plenty of languages available to learn! You can meet as many times if you want and nothing is compulsory. It is also possible to sign up for this programme if you only want to teach or only want to learn a language. We will try our best to find everyone a suitable language partner. You can find all the information and the sign-up form on our website.

To commemorate the "Groningens Ontzet", every year there are festivities around Groningen on the 28th August. The day is also known as “Bommen Berend”, named after the bishop of Münster, who laid siege to the City of Groningen in 1672.

Unfortunately the festivities have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but you can see the flag of Groningen (white and green) on a lot of buildings today as a reminder of “Bommen Berend”.

Did you know that the Winsum is only a short (15 minutes) train ride away from Groningen. So if you’re in Groningen it’s quite easy to plan a trip to ‘the most beautiful village of the Netherlands’.

Planning a visit to the Netherlands? Why not consider some of the country's most beautiful villages?
Winsum was crowned 'most beautiful village in the Netherlands' today. Other serious contenders were Elsloo, Oisterwijk, Hollum and Urk. In a competition by the Dutch Road Users Association ANWB, members had selected the 50 prettiest villages in the country. A jury visited all those places and selected the top-5. Winsum was chosen as the most attractive of them all.
