As usual, on Fridays, we are back to share a fun activity to do while studying in the Netherlands. This particular activity will surely suit the art lovers among us. In the heart of Amsterdam lies the Van Gogh Museum. For the ones who do not know yet, Van Gogh was (and still is) one of the most renowned Dutch painters. His work falls under post-impressionism, an art movement that succeeded nineteenth-century impressionism. For those who don’t know yet, health insurance is obligatory for those aged 18 and above in the Netherlands. Therefore, it is important to share this matter with you. The Dutch healthcare system is a universal, multi-payer system. This means healthcare is funded through a combination of public and private contributions. All Dutch residents – including international students – are free to choose their own private health insurance provider as long as their insurance policy covers certain standards. On the weekends, students have the possibility to travel within the country itself. A couple of weeks back, we introduced the beautiful capital city of Amsterdam and its canals. Within Amsterdam, there is a wide array of facilities to visit and activities to engage in. For the history-lovers among us, the Anne Frank House is located in Amsterdam! For those who are not familiar with her story, Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who hid in 1942 from the N***s during the occupation of the Netherlands. Two years later she was discovered. In 1945 she died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The house in Amsterdam is where she was discovered and where the diary she kept, was found. So, when in Amsterdam, this landmark is definitely a must-see🤩

Another important aspect, as we have covered the finances before, of living abroad is housing. This can be difficult when living abroad. Therefore, we recommend you apply as early as possible to your preferred study program. Once you have been admitted and have registered for a study program at NHL Stenden, you should start looking for accommodation. Likewise, start as early as possible with finding suitable accommodation. This way you can ensure you find the right place to live during your study.
