What's Next? Alumni Talk Series: “Sideways is Forwards”
Date: Friday, February 27,
Alumni talks: 16:00-17:00
Location: Gorlaeus Building, room BE.0.09

We are excited to announce the upcoming session of this semester’s Creative Intelligence and Technology (CrIT) alumni talk series, this time organised around the theme of “Sideways is Forwards”. In this edition of What’s Next?, two Media Technology alumni, Rinus Bot and Gleb Satyukov, share how exploring adjacent interests and disciplines can lead to richer, more resilient paths. An evening about detours, intersections, and the creative potential of not following a straight line, followed by drinks where you can continue the conversation.

Rinus Bot https://rinusbot.nl/about.html is a creative director, designer and producer whose works take on a critical perspective on contemporary issues. His work covers a wide range of domains from filmmaking to creating spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Gleb Satyukov is a data science educator, software engineer, and researcher. He teaches at the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and is involved in a range of data science research projects.

The two alumni will share how studying at Media Technology (now Creative Intelligence and Technology) informed and shaped their career journeys.

With "What's Next?” we hope to inspire current CrIT students, show the various paths taken after their studies, and bring together alumni, current students, and staff.

Join, be inspired, and have a good time as you start the new semester with the first CrIT drinks of 2026.

Friday, December 13th 16:00 - 17:00

Hi everyone! We are excited to announce the upcoming alumni talk session. The theme for this edition of "What's Next?" is creative and immersive technologies. We have invited two alumni who represent this field very well - Robin de Lange and Anastasia Thambwe. Both will share about their lives after graduating Media Technology.

Robin graduated from Media Technology in 2013. He founded the Virtual Reality Learning Lab, which helps schools, companies, students, and individual professionals use VR and AR for teaching and training. He has also an extensive teaching experience and he is often invited to give talks reflecting on the effects of digital technologies on our society, in particular on how Virtual & Augmented Reality can change the way we learn, create and solve problems.

Anastasia graduated from Media Technology in 2022 and is a Creative Technologist and Game Designer at the Digital Society School in Amsterdam. Anastasia worked on various projects for the design, development, art and management processes. Her self-taught skills as a digital artist aid her in designing and communicating about projects she takes part in.

After the two talks, we’ll have drinks and pizza at Fusie.

"What's Next?" is a nice social event that brings together MT alumni, students, and staff. It is organised by students and showcases the diverse career paths after Media Technology.

We proudly invite you to the public lecture by Prof. Bart Barendregt about his anthropological work concerning artificial intelligence and society (in particular Islam). This lecture is part of the Media Technology exhibition "PATTERN", hosted by the Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam.

Bart Barendregt is professor of Digital Anthropology at the Leiden Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS) and the UNESCO Chair of Digital Diversity. He is currently principal investigator of the NWO-VICI project "One Among Zeroes |0100| Towards an Anthropology of Everyday AI in Islam".

Digital technologies and religion have more in common than meets the eye, as they both produce futures in both professional and popular imagination. The ideal of an Islamic information society spearheading the latest technologies offers a model for an alternative to the dominant pathways of digital transition: Californian ‘big tech’, the Chinese social credit system, or European regulation.
