LEO Leiden PhD Association

LEO Leiden PhD Association LEO is the PhD Association of Leiden University. LEO is an organization for PhD students at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

We provide a platform for PhD candidates, organize social events, represent PhD-specific interests and maintain contact with other PhD organizations. About ten years ago the PhD candidates of Leiden University first organized themselves in an interest group: the “Leids Promovendi Overleg” (LEO, don’t ask about the acronym…). Today, we, as LEO, still make sure that the opinions of PhD candidates ar

e heard throughout the University; and this accounts for anyone who is writing a PhD thesis at Leiden University, regardless of his or her official position or employment. LEO wants to make sure that PhD candidates get the information they need. This information may be about rights and duties, but also about such questions as how to find a good printer. It is LEO’s belief that most PhD candidates want to do more than just research during their time in Leiden. Particularly foreign PhD candidates may be interested in our social activities, but even for “locals” it can be enjoyable to meet fellow PhD candidates from other fields. To this end, LEO organizes a monthly “borrel” called PhDrinks, where you can meet fellow PhD candidates and get some inside hints on living and working in Leiden. LEO, the Leiden University PhD Association, is looking for new members to join our Board from March2024！

LEO aims to help PhDs enjoy their time at Leiden University by connecting PhDs across the different faculties, providing practical supportand guidance when things get tricky, and representing PhD interests. We organize social events and workshops as well as liaising with the University Council through PhDoc.
As a Board Member, you will have a budgetto organize and run the events that you think would benefit PhDs at Leiden University.
