The digital opening of Leiden400 (Mayflower 400 project) has won a fantastic price today: the Golden Giraffe Event Awards 2021! 🏆

Since 1994, the Golden Giraffe has rewarded organizations that stick out their necks and dare to market themselves to communicate a message.

With the digital opening of Leiden400, project leaders Marlijn Kok and Michaël Roumen have demonstrated how an online event can be of enormous value to companies, brands and other organizations. Over 50,000 international (digital) visitors walked through historic Leiden and have been given the opportunity to become acquainted with the story of the Pilgrims in all its facets!

A big thanks to all partners who worked together to make the opening such an international success. Pieterskerk Leiden, Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken, Museum De Lakenhal, Leiden Marketing (Leiden, Stad van Ontdekkingen), Museum Volkenkunde, Leiden American Pilgrim Museum, Theo Pronk from Stichting Verborgen Stad, Hortus botanicus Leiden, Flowsound, and all others.

On Thursday 26th of November, Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken en Stichting Verborgen Stad have launched 4 new digital reconstructions of Leiden in 1620. Watch the livestream here 👉 https://youtu.be/Ti2khLjUYss

Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken en Stichting Verborgen Stad worked together over the past year to digitally reconstruct a number of locations in Leiden where the Pilgrims lived, worked and bathed. You can travel back to the year 1620 from behind your PC or on the spot - with a telephone or tablet - and you can have a 360 ° view of the year that the Pilgrims left Leiden.

In addition to the Breestraat, another four Pilgrim locations in Leiden have been digitally rebuilt: the Vrouwekerk, the Begijnhofkerk (and Rapenburg), Kloksteeg 17 and the Zicht op Leiden. In a later phase of the project, places between Leiden and Delfshaven - the starting point of the Pilgrims - will also be reconstructed, including Voorburg and Delft. Take a closer look in Leiden in 1620 via www.canals5d.nl.

The project, made possible in part by Gemeente Leiden and Provincie Zuid-Holland, is part of the Leiden400 commemoration year, in which activities are organized around the departure of the Pilgrims.

Mayflower's 400th: Retelling the story of Plymouth Colony by CBS News

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower, the founding of the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts, and the Pilgrims' first encounters with the Native Americans. While that tale has been told now for centuries, it's being re-told in a new way by the non-profit group Plymouth 400, including an un-traditional take on the Thanksgiving holiday. It includes an interview with Steven Peters, a spokesperson for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. Check it out in the link below!
