What a week in Geneva! ✨
The annual study trip to Geneva for students of the Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights has come to an end after five inspiring days of learning, exchange, and engagement. 🌍
Here is what the week looked like:
🔹Monday – Welcome to Geneva! 👋 Meeting with Child Identity Protection, a tour of the Palais des Nations, and a group dinner at La Mère Royaume, made even more special by the presence of two of our alumnae, Begüm Şimşek and Rachele Zamperini.
🔹Tuesday – Visit to Palais Wilson for conversations on the work of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the broader work of the UN on children’s rights, with contributions from the Secretariat, UNICEF, Child Rights Connect, and Defence for Children. Students also presented their child-friendly versions of selected Views and Inquiries of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, developed as part of the Advanced LL.M. in International Children’s Rights.👏
The day continued with visits to Defence for Children International and Plan International, where students had the opportunity to learn more about children’s rights advocacy and engagement at the international level. 🤝
🔹 Wednesday – Students visited the Palais des Nations for a session on the Special Procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Council, supported by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. A particular highlight of the day was attending the Universal Periodic Review of Belgium and seeing an important United Nations human rights mechanism in action.
🔹 Thursday – The day included visits to International Social Service and Save the Children, offering students further insights into the work of organisations active in the promotion and protection of children’s rights. The day concluded with a gathering to celebrate a wonderful and enriching week together in Geneva.
🔹 Friday – On the final day, students visited the Red Cross Museum, bringing the study trip to a meaningful close and offering one final moment to reflect on humanitarian action.
A big thank you to all the organisations and experts who contributed to this year’s study trip and helped make the programme so enriching. And a special thank you to our students for bringing such curiosity, energy, and commitment throughout the week! 👏
