❗️Last chance to apply, the deadline has been extended to tomorrow (7th of November) ❗️
Hey everyone,
For especially those who have taken the European Protection of Human Rights course, I have something that may interest you;
On behalf of ELSA Leiden, I would like to invite you all to consider applying to the ELSA Leiden ECHR Moot Court Competition team of 2021/2022 – the biggest HR-based moot court worldwide.
The annual competition consists of a several rounds:
First, the written round; where you write submissions on behalf of both the applicant and the respondent state of a fictitious but contemporarily relevant ECHR case. The submissions are substantial: roughly 20 pages long each.
Second, the regional round; which will be organised in Jan/Feb, and where you and the team will plead your cases before a panel of judges and Human Rights experts.
If successfully in the top 18 teams from the first two rounds, a final round in front of the (real) ECtHR in the Palais de l’Europe, Strasbourg takes place for additional pleadings. The winning team is offered a traineeship at the ECtHR.
More information about all of this, as well as details on the case to be pleaded itself, can be found on their website: https://helgapedersenmoot.elsa.org/
If you interested in partaking, please submit your application, consisting of a very short (1< page) motivation letter and your CV, to [email protected] for us (myself + ELSA board + advisory professors) to assess. Please also indicate whether you are part of any other competition/moot/clinic as organised by the Law faculty this year, and particularly any HR or moot experience.
The deadline for this is Friday 5th November.
Please also note that firstly, since plans remain that the rounds take place physically next year, you must be in Leiden to take part.
Please also note that participants will have to pay for their own travel and accommodation costs regarding the pleading (2nd and 3rd) rounds.
We look forward to seeing your applications! And if you have any questions, feel free to reply via DM.
Also on behalf of ELSA Leiden-
