Philosophy Leiden : Global and Comparative Perspectives

The Leiden BA programme in Philosophy is one of the few worldwide in taking a global and comparative The Leiden approach is different.

The Philosophy programme in Leiden is unique in the Netherlands, and one of the few worldwide, in taking a global and comparative perspective on philosophy. Most programmes restrict themselves to Western philosophy as rooted in Greek antiquity. Many narrow this down even further by focusing on analytical philosophy as developed in the 20th century. We respond to the need for inclusiveness by letti

ng the world’s traditions of thought mutually inform and enrich each other. The programme features Western philosophy as well as philosophies from India, East Asia, and the Arab world. It combines conceptual analysis with hermeneutics and phenomenology, and historical contextualization with cross-cultural comparison. We will let you use all the resources philosophy has to offer!
