Yesterday, we celebrated the 45th anniversary of our law faculty with the opening of the renovated Garden of Justice, a symbolic tree planting ceremony and the burial of a time capsule. The jubilee tree was made possible by the Friends of the Law Faculty, a network of students, alumni and current and former staff members who support initiatives within the faculty.
The rain stopped just in time for the beginning of the ceremony, which was opened by Rector Magnificus Jan Smits and Dean Ronald Janse. Then they rolled up their sleeves, took a shovel in hand, and planted the apple tree in the ground together with a time capsule that contains objects of the daily faculty life.
Ronald Janse: “For 45 years, our faculty has been a place where ideas about law and justice come together. It is special to see students and staff gathered here, because it is this community that truly defines our faculty. By planting this tree and burying a time capsule, we celebrate our past while expressing our confidence in the future of education and research.”
