n should be centred on you, the student. And to us, you're not one of many master's students filling a seat in a crowded lecture hall. Instead, you're a contributing member of our academic community. You work in small groups that together seek solutions to real world problems. This means that you are continuously exchanging knowledge, experiences and opinions with your fellow students as well as the academic staff. This way of cooperative learning is called Problem-Based Learning (PBL). It is driven by a spirit of inquiry that motivates you to go deeper than memorisation and a shallow understanding of concepts. To study in Maastricht is to study with an international perspective. When compared to other universities in the Netherlands and its surrounding countries, Maastricht University has the highest ratio of international students, representing all corners of the globe. More than half of our master's students come from outside the Netherlands, and this international flavour is infused into every aspect of our education and student life.

Ga jij volgend jaar beginnen met een universitaire studie of gaat jouw broertje of zusje ook studeren aan de UM? Nodig dan je ouders uit voor de informatie-avond.
Op 24 maart organiseert de Universiteit Maastricht van 19.00 tot 22.00 uur een informatiebijeenkomst, speciaal voor ouders uit de regio. Na enkele algemene presentaties krijgen je ouders tijdens een informele “speeddate” de gelegenheid vragen te stellen.
De bijeenkomst vindt plaats in het centrum van Maastricht.

"Nobody was harmed in taking this picture." Today Dossier 043, a fictitious murder case that students have to solve, started. In collecting evidence, they learn more about specific programmes taught at Maastricht University. For example, they analyze DNA and fingerprints at Biomedical Sciences and learn about the “Prisoner's Dilemma” at Econometrics. Hopefully they can solve the case and identify the murderer!

Maastricht University is among the best performing young university in Europe.
In the third edition of the QS ‘Top 50 Under 50’ ranking, Maastricht University climbed from 7th place to 6th. This ranking was published for the first time in 2012 to give an indication which universities may in the future become top universities worldwide.
