For my master Learning and Development in Organisations at Maastricht University, I am currently working on my thesis. I am researching what the relationship is between coaching behaviours of a manager and the development of employability competencies. Moreover, I will investigate how this relationship gets influenced by GRIT (the passion and perseverance of a learner). This is all in the context of Performance Appraisal Interviews (PAI, a yearly interview between manager and employee). ERD is looking for a student assistant!!

Context: There is no database which gathers letters to shareholders (LTS) as part of a firm’s annual report in a systematic way. Thus, annual reports must be gathered (already done) and LTS have to be extracted manually per firm per year (~1/3 done, i.e. 91 firms=1.223 annual reports).

Task of student assistant: The student assistant would have to extract the LTS of the remaining 176 firms (=2.719 annual reports). The extraction entails three steps: First, the annual report has to be screened for and cropped to the pages of the LTS. Second, the cropped LTS file has to be saved so that it can be uniquely identified for further analyses (e.g., name and position of author, year, firm). Third, the extraction has to be documented in a corresponding Excel file. The student assistant will get access to the file share with the annual reports, the documentation Excel and a prepared manual for the extraction.

Estimated time: 3 min/annual report * 2.719 annual reports =8.157 min≈136 hours
