✨ Tips for Your TP School ✨

1️⃣ Recommendation Letters

Ask your mentor for a recommendation letter, it’s great for future applications! Even if it’s not your last TP, it never hurts to ask. Stay connected with your TP schools for networking and future recommendations.

2️⃣ Job Offers

Could you see yourself living in your TP country? It would be sad to decline a job offer just because you knew from the start you’d never move there.

3️⃣ Finances

Think about visa costs, flights, accommodation, and inflation. Remember: Erasmus grants are only available for Europe!

4️⃣ Grade Preferences

Have you taught all age groups? This is your chance to explore different grades and find what you enjoy most before committing to one.

5️⃣ Curricula

Try out various curricula during your TPs to see which one fits your teaching style best.

🌍 What are your priorities for your next TP?

💡 Older students, share your advice in the comments for future and current students!

Hello! My name is Aimee, and I’m currently a 4th-year student at ITEps. I moved to Meppel in August 2021 from Germany🇩🇪 , and now I only have my final teaching practice and thesis left before graduating. My time at ITEps is almost over, so we thought we’d share a little post from the perspective of a 4th-year student.

Over these four years, I have learned so much, had amazing opportunities, and been lucky enough to complete two TPs in my hometown, Frankfurt, one in Madrid, and one in Athens ( will be my last one), as well as an Erasmus semester in Barcelona. It’s truly been the best of both worlds, being at home while also experiencing life abroad.

I stepped into a classroom for the very first time here, and that’s when I fell in love with teaching. I’ve also had the chance to meet people from all over the world, many of whom I now count as my closest friends.

Moving abroad can be scary, and while the Netherlands isn’t so different from Germany, living here has opened so many doors for me and given me new perspectives.

Now it’s time to focus on my thesis, and then it’s goodbye ITEps for me! Next time we will see a perspective of a first year ITEPS student :)

Now that the holiday season is over - let's look back at how our ITE community celebrated 🌲

We can all agree that after spending time with our loved ones, food is one of the main priorities. Those of us that celebrate Christmas got to enjoy Raclette in Germany, Paella in Spain or Bejgli in Hungary. For some of us, it is also a tradition to make ginger bread houses every year. If you have ever been to Germany, you might know that the Christmas markets are quite the highlight during this season🌟 Every year, the Netherlands Red Cross also has their "Serious Request Programm" which raises money for different crises which one of our students joined during the holidays.

In addition to all the Christmas traditions, many of us also like to spend New Year's Eve in certain ways. For example, in the Netherlands people make "Nieuwjaarsrolletjes" for the new year (last picture). 🇳🇱

We hope that whether you celebrated or not, you enjoyed the few weeks off and focused on being with your loved ones 💫 We wish you a happy new year!

How do you spend the holidays?

After we are all caught up with what our electives have been up to in Meppel, let’s cross some borders to see what our4th/3rd years are up to on their semester abroad💫

1. Aimee and Mel currently find themselves at two different universities in Spain: let’s see what they have to share.

2. + 3. Hi, I’m Aimee and I am currently experiencing the Erasmus life at the University of Central Catalonia (UVIC) , near Barcelona. I’m loving every moment—from the Catalan culture and beautiful language to the unique subjects I get to explore, like Spanish, Catalan, English Literature, and drama. I will remember it the rest of my life🫶🏻

4 Hi, I am Mel and currently at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in the beautiful Madrid. This city honestly has it all: beautiful architecture, interesting history, delicious food, amazing parties, fun people and the sun is also out most days! Getting to know the Spanish education system has been very interesting. I get to learn more about leadership, psychology, cognitive development and much more!

5. Time for some visitors in Madrid! Some friends from ITEPS visited Madrid. Many of us use the opportunity of Erasmus to visit each other in different countries. Here in Madrid, they offer incredible free walking tours throughout the city.💡

6. Some of us decided to do the Grand Tour in their last year! 🔅 It already says in the name, but it takes you far away into different places. Here we can see Ivy in Bali for her minor about Mindfullness Leadership.

7. Some of our 4th years decided to go quite the opposite direction of warm Spain - all the way to Norway. Here they have the opportunity to do Outdoor Education, literally bringing them into the outdoors of Norway.🌲

8. They get to do different hikes, camping and other outdoor activities during their elective.

9. Of course, they also got to see the Northern lights!

10. Back to our classmates on the Grand Tour! You have different courses from various countries to choose from the majority of our cohort find themselves in Bali and Thailand.

11. The Grand Tour really allows them to explore their cultures to the fullest. 🌏

We hope you enjoyed this insight into the last year!

🌟 Kicking Off Year 2! 🌱

After a well-deserved summer break, we’re back and ready to take on Year 2 of ITEps – and it’s already off to an exciting start!

Here’s what we’ve been up to so far:
✨ Education for Sustainable Development: We’ve jumped into a major group project, redesigning innovative lesson series for the Global Schools Program.
📚 EIL and Math: From creating a hands-on phonics tool to collaborating on a unique Math Magazine, we’re sharpening our teaching expertise and embracing fresh perspectives.
🎯 PDP Goals & Coaching: Setting goals and preparing for our Year 2 portfolios with coaching sessions to keep us on track and motivated!

It’s been a busy, inspiring start, and we’re excited for everything this year has in store! 🚀

Year 1 so far🤔|
Hey, long time no see!🫣
We have decided to check in and tell you how each year has been going so far and what we’ve been up to!😌 We’re starting with our first-year students, whose ITEPS journey has just begun!🥳
📚 Lesson Activity: Just before the autumn break, our first years had to step into a primary classroom and present an activity that they created! It was such an amazing opportunity, and it turned out to be super helpful for our upcoming teaching practice in January!
✨ Teaching Practice Prep: Teaching practice is knocking on the door, and with that, we had two weeks of daily workshops and sessions that helped us in many ways. From what to expect during TP, to many activities we can put into practice with the students, to how to care for our well-being during this period.
📍 Wednesday Program: Moving to a new country and being a student at a completely new university can be challenging and overwhelming at times! That’s why, for the past couple of years, the second years have been organizing a program held every Wednesday. The workshops they create are designed to help us start our Meppel and ITEPS life smoothly.🤩
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we have received a warm welcome from ITEPS, and we are going strong, doing our assignments at the moment.🏆🎉💪🏻

Selamat Siang!

Thank you for joining my teaching practice takeover in Bali! I was doing my TP at the Canggu Community School. I was placed in year 2T. The class has 22 children.
The school has students from Early Years to Year 13. There are two classes per year.

It’s been an amazing time! I was able to teach several Maths, Literacy and Inquiry lessons. In the subject Indonesian Studies students learn about several traditions and celebrations in the country. It was really interesting!

In Bali, you can explore so many things. The nature is beautiful! Canggu is in the South of Bali and provides everything you need. There are several shops, restaurants, beaches etc.

I had a great experience and I really enjoyed the time in Bali.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me! .dorothea 🌞

Buenos días ☀️🇨🇱

Thanks for joining me for a week in Santiago.😊 I’m currently in the third year of ITEps and I did my teaching practice at the Santiago College in Chile.🇨🇱 During these 9 weeks I was placed in a Grade 5 classroom, following the PYP Program and the national curriculum of Chile.

Next week will be the last week of my tp and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to be here, I can only recommend the school!! If you decide to do your teaching practice at Santiago College then you’ll be placed in the lower school section, which includes the Grades 3-5.

One big advantage of doing your tp here is that you’ll start into a new school year together with the students, as they come back from their summer holidays in March. This helped me personally, as I was seen as an equal to a homeroom teacher rather than just a student teacher. Additionally, you have the opportunity to join the onboarding sessions 2 weeks before the kids arrive. During these weeks you’ll learn a looot about the IB, the school and international mindedness.🥰

Santiago is one of the safest capitals in South America, so I’d say it’s a good starting point if you ever wanna explore this part of the world 🌎

This experience was amazing and I’m sure that if you ever come to Chile you’ll fall in love with the country.❤️🇨🇱

Ya está!🇦🇷

Thank you for joining me for a week in Buenos Aires! I am currently a 3rd year ITEPS student and did my teaching practice at a bilingual school in Belgrano, Buenos Aires 🇦🇷 I was teaching a 3rd grade (7-8 years old) and was observing a 5th grade, both in the English language classroom!

This teaching practice mostly gave me the opportunity to teach English as many subjects are in Spanish. The school takes a more teacher-centered, behaviorist approach to education. I would highly recommend to have at least a basic level of Spanish, to integrate yourself fully into the school and the city.

Lesson planning is done collaboratively which I enjoyed a lot as I had never done that before. It was a great school for Buenos Aires as I had enough time to plan all my lessons during working hours and got to enjoy the city and its culture outside of my teaching practice.

I am in love with this country and understand why Argentine's love it so much! I am sure if you choose to go here, you will see what I am talking about 😉

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! .khr
