What happens when students design their own course? 👀

This semester, a group of 11 UCR students did exactly that.

Through the student-designed course “From Resisting Narratives to Narrating Resistance”, students explored what learning, pedagogy, and knowledge-sharing can look like when students become creators, not just participants.

To close the semester, they hosted a Symposium in Anne common space, inviting the UCR community to engage with big questions about higher education, storytelling, resistance, and how education can be reimagined.

Part exhibition, part conversation, part experiment, this was a space for ideas, discussion, homemade treats, and challenging the way we think about learning.

At UCR, learning doesn’t always stay inside the classroom.

From classroom idea to real-world pitch 🚀

As part of the course Business & Entrepreneurship, UCR student Marnik recently presented his prototype at Dockwize Demo Day in Vlissingen — alongside students from different colleges after 10 weeks of development and iteration.

In front of a room full of people from Dockwize, participants had just a few minutes to present their prototype, answer questions, and invite feedback from the audience.

And the response to Marnik’s project? 👀
The people loved it with multiple attendees showing real interest and even exchanging contact information after the presentation.

This is what learning at UCR can look like:
developing ideas, testing prototypes, presenting to professionals, and building real connections beyond the classroom.

Welcome back to Middelburg and to UCR!

Last weekend, UCR and Aurora - UCR's Alumni Foundation, welcomed alumni back for the Alumni Homecoming Weekend — a day of reconnecting, reminiscing, and making new memories together.

From the very first generation of alumni to the most recent graduating class, it was special to see so many familiar faces return to Middelburg and celebrate the community that continues long after graduation.

The weekend included an opening speech, lunch with professors and alumni, a walk through the new academic programme, a reception with drinks, dinner in the Burgerzaal, a Roosevelt College Choir performance and Aurora drinks at Café Bommel.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined and helped make this Homecoming so meaningful.

When theory meets real-life practice 🧠🤝

In Professor Soledad Santos’ Psychodiagnostics & Psychotherapy class, UCR students explored what it means to connect academic knowledge with real clinical skills.

For this special activity, Joyce from Emergis , the largest mental health care organisation in Zeeland, helped organise a session where students practised interviewing patients with real clinical problems through cases based on lived professional experience.

It was a powerful way for students to move beyond theory and experience how psychodiagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, and communication come together in practice.

A big thank you to Joyce, Emergis, and Professor Soledad Santos for bringing this meaningful learning experience into the classroom.
