Hey All! We are introducing the Amsterdam Theory Monthly event recap.
At the end of each month we shall be sharing a recap of the Seminars, Journal Club, Master Lunch's, and Colloquium that took place in and around Science Park. Here is our first recap featuring the month of May.
Second Photo is Jasper van Wezel presenting at the String Theory Journal Club.
Third photo is Matteo Canaletti presenting at the Master Lunch.
Fourth photo is Karel Geraedts presenting at the Master Lunch.

Softies in the Netherlands, we welcome you to join the 33rd Dutch Soft Matter Meeting on May 30th in Science Park, Amsterdam! Registration closes on May 25th. Looking forward to seeing all the amazing research that will be presented.👋 The Dutch Soft Matter Meeting aims at providing a regular forum of discussion and exchange between Master and PhD students, postdocs, senior scientists and industry working on all topics of soft condensed matter in the Netherlands. We are grateful to UvA's local organizing team, Sara Jabbari Farouji, Ioana Ilia, Antoine Deblais and Mazi Jalaal, for kindly hosting this edition. The post is made with the help of ChatGPT-4 and Midjourney.

This week’s mater lunch we invited Dr. Wout Merbis from Dutch Institute for Emergent Phenomena, UvA to talk about quantum methods in complex system. The accurate and efficient information of dynamical activity can be obtained using a quantum mechanics inspired framework using Tensor Network methods.
The Dutch Institute for Emergent Phenomena (DIEP) is an interdisciplinary research centre across fundamental sciences with the purpose of furthering the understanding of emergent phenomena. Check www.d-iep.org/talks for their interesting seminars, talks and beyond.

For the past two Master Lunches we had Stathis Vitouladitis talk to us about: Generalised symmetries and how we can find them in our physical theories.

Below is the abstract from the talk:
Hey, here’s a complicated thing I found on the street, can you tell what phase of matter it sits in just by the symmetries it breaks? No. But I can tell you what you should be looking for. I can tell you what symmetries there are; what’s the most general notion of a symmetry.

For the past two days we are honored to have Christoph Weniger and Miranda Cheng sharing their researches on utilizing machine learning into theoretical physics. Christoph talked about how to explore Dark matter matter with machine learning and simulation-based inference. These powerful tools push simulations on universe into the next level. Miranda is working on using machine learning algorithms to approach solutions of the Hamiltonian of the system. Welcome to the charming world of intersection of computer science and theoretical physics!
