Deze maand is het de maand van AI in het onderwijs! Ter gelegenheid hiervan lanceert de Nederlandse AI Coalitie in samenwerking met onderwijsexperts (o.a. Universitair hoofddocent Inge Molenaar) een online AI-cursus: AI voor Onderwijs. Een gratis online cursus met als doel bewustwording creëren bij leraren van het primair en voortgezet onderwijs over de kansen en uitdagingen van AI in het onderwijs. 🇳🇱‘Op de middelbare school wist ik het zeker: ik wilde later iets met mensen doen. Na lang twijfelen tussen antropologie en sociologie koos ik voor het laatste. Toch heb ik antropologie niet volledig uitgesloten: ik heb gedurende mijn bachelor bijvakken gevolgd en in mijn proefschrift heb ik gebruik gemaakt van zowel kwantitatieve als kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethoden. Zo heb ik nooit definitief hoeven kiezen!

De combinatie tussen sociologie en antropologie kwam goed van pas bij het schrijven van mijn proefschrift. Ik onderzocht de integratieparadox waarin hoger opgeleide migranten zich minder verbonden voelen met Nederland dan lager opgeleide migranten. Bij zulke verrassende resultaten zijn interviews een perfecte manier om zulke bevindingen beter te begrijpen. De ervaringen van mensen geven inzichten in patronen die surveydata laten zien. Daarnaast merk ik dat ik ook zelf energie krijg van mensen. Mijn gedachten komen sneller tot stand door samen te werken met collega’s en mensen voor mijn onderzoek. Vandaar dat ik als sociale wetenschapper deze prikkels op zoek!’

🇬🇧‘In high school, I knew for sure: I wanted to do something with people. After doubting for a long time between studying anthropology or sociology, I decided on the latter. Nevertheless, I did not completely rule out anthropology. During my bachelor's degree, I took extra courses and in my PhD I used qualitative methods in addition to quantitative methods. This way, I never had to make a definite choice!

The combination of sociology and anthropology came in handy during my PhD. I studied the integration paradox in which higher-educated migrants feel less connected to the Netherlands than lower-educated migrants. With surprising results like these, interviews are a perfect way to better understand the findings. The experiences of people give insights in the patterns that survey data offer. I also notice that I get energy from people. Working together with colleagues and people for my research make my thoughts flow more quickly. That is why, as a social scientist, I actively look for these stimuli!’

🇳🇱Wil jij met studenten van verschillende opleidingen je enkele maanden verdiepen in een actueel, maatschappelijk relevant thema? Dat kan! Vanaf februari gaan de nieuwe honourslabs van start. Verdiep je in studentenwelzijn, onderzoek culturele diversiteit in teams, bedenk innovatieve oplossingen voor een gezondere leefstijl, denk mee over de ideale vorm om sturing te geven aan een land of samenleving, of daag je creatieve mind uit en probeer een antwoord te vinden op de vraag: ‘(hoe) maakt kunst het verschil in de academische wereld?’

Op dinsdag 8 februari (12.30 – 13.30 uur) leggen we tijdens een online bijeenkomst uit wat honourslabs zijn en lichten we de thema’s toe. De link voor deze bijeenkomst vind je op de website. Aanmelden kan tot en met zondag 13 februari.

‘I have always had a passion for the interaction between exercise and psychology. The link between stress, motivation and physical activity was therefore a recurring theme throughout my studies. After I completed the Research Master Behavioural Science, I started my PhD research. This allowed me to immerse myself even more into this fascinating topic. When you are working so intensively on a subject, you want to understand it thoroughly. That is why an important lesson I learned during my PhD is: you make your own (sometimes little) contribution and other researchers can build on that.

Meanwhile, I am busy with my own company: Motives. In my work, I translate scientific insights into practice. I help companies and organisations make knowledge about vitality and physical activity understandable and applicable. I. This way, my knowledge, skill and passions merge within Moving Motives.’

‘Ik heb altijd al een passie gehad voor de interactie tussen bewegen en psychologie. De link tussen stress, motivatie en fysieke activiteit was dan ook een rode draad gedurende mijn studieperiode. Nadat ik de Research Master Behavioural Science had afgerond, ben ik begonnen aan mijn promotieonderzoek. Zo heb ik mij nog verder mogen verdiepen in dit fascinerende onderwerp. Als je je zo intensief met een thema bezighoudt, wil je het volledig begrijpen. Daarom is een belangrijke les die ik heb geleerd gedurende mijn PhD: je draagt je eigen (soms kleine) steen bij en hierop kunnen andere onderzoekers weer voortbouwen.

Inmiddels ben ik druk bezig met mijn eigen bedrijf: Motives. In mijn werk maak ik een vertaalslag van recente wetenschappelijke inzichten naar de praktijk. Ik help bedrijven en organisaties om kennis over vitaliteit en fysieke activiteit begrijpelijk en toepasbaar te maken. Zo komen mijn kennis, kunde en passies op een mooie manier samen binnen Moving Motives.’
