Op 6 mei, 81 jaar na het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, presenteerde cultureel historicus Frank Mehring zijn boek ‘Songs of Liberation in the Netherlands’ op een avond georganiseerd door de bibliotheekvan Rees, de vereniging Liemers Niederrhein en de historische vereniging van Rees (RESSA). 🇳🇱🎸🎶 Tijdens zijn onderzoek ontdekte hij in het Vrijheidsmuseum Groesbeek een archief van maar liefst 300 stukken bladmuziek, partituren en documenten die gerelateerd waren aan de Nederlandse bevrijding tussen 1944 en 1945. Tijdens de bezetting waren swingmuziek en andere muziekstijlen verboden, maar na de bevrijding konden Nederlanders ook naar andere soorten muziek luisteren.
🎵 Op het event draaide Mehring nieuwe opnames gebaseerd op de bladmuziek uit het archief en speelde hij zelf een paar van deze liederen die bij de bevrijding populair waren. De avond eindigde hij met “We Bring Peace to All,” waarbij het publiek hem enthousiast bijviel. 🇬🇧 On May 6, 81 years after the end of World War II, cultural historian Frank Mehring presented his book ‘Songs of Liberation in the Netherlands’ at an event organized by the Rees Library, the LiemersNiederrhein Association, and the Rees Historical Society (RESSA). 🇳🇱🎸🎶 During his research, he discovered an archive at the Freedom museum Groesbeek containing no fewer than 300 pieces of sheet music, scores, and documents related to the Dutch liberation between 1944 and 1945. During the occupation, swing music and other musical styles were banned, but after the liberation, the Dutch could also listen to other kinds of music.
🎵 At the event, Mehring played new recordings based on the sheet music from the archive and performed a few of these songs himself that were popular at the time of the liberation. He ended the evening with “We Bring Peace to All,” which the audience enthusiastically joined in on.
