🔜 Hybrid Session at Cultuur&Campus Putselaan Conference: Connecting Campus and Community through the Arts

As part of the Where Arts and Community Meet Conference organised by Cultuur&Campus Putselaan in Rotterdam, ELIA will be hosting a hybrid panel conversation open to everyone.

This session brings together local and international artists, and cultural and education professionals to exchange and explore a common interest in connecting arts, research and education with community-building practices.

Joining from different parts of the world, panellists will reflect on how academic institutions, local communities and city life can interact and about the role creative initiatives and arts practices can play in this context.

A Station for Resources #03: In the Wake of the Lost Hangout - A dialogue on techno-utopias and smart city imaginaries, with Angeliki Diakrousi and Shivano Raghoenathsingh and moderated by Leana Boven

Artist and architect Angeliki Diakrousi and researcher Shivano Raghoenathsingh invite you to join a conversation around the Mosquito device, smart city technologies, and their impact on Rotterdam’s youth and public spaces. Featuring the video work In the Wake of the Lost Hangout (with Geo Barcan), this event explores the socio-political dimensions of urban tech and collective futures.

Een mooie Makersweek bij Willem de Kooning Academy

Een inspirerende week vol creativiteit, verhalen en ontmoeting. Van yoga en personal branding tot thee blends en gedragsverandering, het programma was afwisselend en boeiend voor iedereen. Ook de game night van Jackie's Hangout bracht mensen op een leuke manier samen.

We zijn trots dat we als partner konden meedoen. Dank aan iedereen die erbij was! 🧡

🎉 Op 1 juli lanceren we feestelijk de eerste versie van Atlas op Zuid: een dashboard vol verhalen én data over klimaat op Rotterdam-Zuid.

Wat betekent klimaatadaptatie écht voor bewoners? Waar komen risico’s samen, en wat beschermt juist? Samen met bewoners, experts en initiatiefnemers bouwen we aan een plek waar kennis verbindt.

De Tweebosbuurt, ooit een levendige wijk in Rotterdam-Zuid, ligt erbij als een spookstad. Mustapha Eaisaouiyen, oud-bewoner en woonactivist, neemt je mee langs de ruïnes en deelt verhalen over verzet, verlies en vastberadenheid.

Dit programma maakt deel uit van het Studio Programma Collectief Leren voor een Gedeelde en Rechtvaardige Stad, georganiseerd door voor Cultuur&Campus Putselaan. Een van de drie programmalijnen van het Studio Programma is (Building) an Urban Union: een reeks activiteiten rond maatschappelijke vraagstukken die spelen in de wijk. Onderwerpen zijn onder andere gezondheid en welzijn, gentrificatie, inclusie en participatie, vertrouwen en gemeenschapsgevoel, klimaatbestendigheid en ecologische duurzaamheid. Ontmoeting, collectief leren, kennis delen, produceren en presenteren staan centraal: de activiteiten ontstaan direct vanuit ervaringen en vragen uit de wijken. Het programma wordt gevoed door urgente thema’s zoals onderwijs, gentrificatie, klimaat onzekerheid, niet-institutionele kennis en ruimtelijke ongelijkheid – net
zo relevant in Rotterdam-Zuid als elders in de wereld.

Once a vibrant part of Afrikaanderwijk, the Tweebosbuurt now stands in ruins. Former resident and activist Mustapha Eaisaouiyen guides you through this erased neighbourhood and the housing policies that reshaped it, sharing stories of resistance, resilience, and the right to stay.

This event is part of the Studio Programme Collective Learning for a Shared and Just City, organised by for Cultuur&Campus Putselaan. One of the Studio Programme’s three thematic lines is (Building) an Urban Union: a series of activities focusing on societal questions arising in the neighbourhood. Topics relate to health and wellbeing, gentrification, inclusion and participation, trust and community belonging, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability. Meeting, collective learning, sharing knowledge, production and presentation are central: activities arise directly from experiences and questions from the neighbourhoods. The program is fueled by themes such as education, gentrification, climate uncertainty, non-institutional knowledge and spatial inequality, which are as urgent in Rotterdam (South) as elsewhere in the world.

🥋 Afgelopen vrijdag 30 mei gingen de leerlingen van Chong Hong enthousiast aan de slag met het ontwerpen van hun eigen taekwondo pakken! Samen met Stichting Bruggen Slaan gaven de kinderen met kleuren, woorden en tekeningen vorm aan wie zij zijn en wat taekwondo voor hen betekent.

De 16-jarige Basma speelde een belangrijke rol in de organisatie van deze inspirerende werksessie — een prachtig voorbeeld van verbinding en talentontwikkeling waar Cultuur&Campus Putselaan graag aan bijdraagt.

Na het ontwerpen mochten de kinderen hun creaties alvast showen tijdens een oefensessie op de catwalk. En dat is niet voor niets: op 21 juni schitteren deze unieke ontwerpen tijdens de modeshow op het Bloemhof Festival aan het Putseplein.

📅 Een paar weken geleden zijn we samen aan de slag gegaan met het maken van de eerste versie van het programma voor dit najaar. Er liggen mooie ideeën, maar we zijn vooral benieuwd naar jouw input.

Het Grondstoffenstation ♻️

Wist je dat op het Afrikaanderplein een bijzonder paviljoen staat dat marktafval een nieuw leven geeft? Het Grondstoffenstation is gebouwd van hergebruikte materialen en verzamelt afval van de markt, zoals groente en fruit. Dat afval wordt omgezet in nieuwe grondstoffen, zoals jam en compost.

Het station is ontworpen door Superuse Studios en is onderdeel van de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie. In 2024 won het zelfs de Rotterdam Architectuurprijs!

Tijdens het Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Alumni Event op 13 mei deelden alumni, onderzoekers en culturele professionals ideeën over diversiteit en inclusie in de culturele en creatieve sectoren.

Onze communicatie- en marketingspecialist, Melissa van der Walt, vertelde hoe Cultuur&Campus Putselaan werkt aan een inclusieve campus in Rotterdam-Zuid. Een plek die de wijk niet alleen weerspiegelt in programma’s, maar ook in processen en machtsverhoudingen.

In plaats van ‘inclusie’ als vinkje te zien, bouwen we samen met bewoners, makers en studenten aan een plek van betekenis.

Join us for a conversation with urbanist and historian Davarian Baldwin, moderated by Hind S., on how universities shape, and often disrupt, the cities they inhabit. From Hartford to Rotterdam Zuid, we’ll explore the power dynamics of knowledge, space, and who gets to belong.

Baldwin is the author of In the Shadow of the Ivory Tower and the founding director of the Smart Cities Research Lab at Trinity College-Hartford. Serkouh brings her important research on surveillance and public space into dialogue with local urban transformations.
