On Friday March 10th EMDI hosted its' first open event:

A roundtable discussion with Prof.dr. Steven Vertovec, and we had drinks after at the Erasmus Paviljoen.

We thank you all for participating and making the first event a great succes! A special thanks goes to Prof.dr. Steven Vertovec, who overwhelmed us (in the late afternoon) by presenting his latest work, and to EMDI key members Prof.dr. Kristin Henrard and Prof.dr. Maurice Crul for chairing the roundtable discussion.

On Wednesday 25th January, EMDI members had their first kick-off meeting. This meeting had the goal to create a shared sense of direction for EMDI. In order to facilitate the shared sense, we discussed among others that EMDI will host small meetings once a month on Fridays 16.00 – 18.00. Each meeting will be organized by one of the EMDI-network participants by inviting a key-note speaker: during the first meeting on the 10th of March the speaker will be Steven Vertovec. The meeting in April will be co-organized by Prof.dr.ir. Thea Hilhorst (ISS) and Prof.dr. Kristin Henrard (ESL) on the politics of vulnerability.

On Friday March 10th, EMDI hosts its' first open meeting! The meeting takes place from 16.00 - 18.00 at EUR Mandeville T3-13 and will be followed by drinks afterwards at the Erasmus Paviljoen.

To celebrate this special occasion, EMDI has invited acclaimed academic Prof.dr. Steven Vertovec to join us in a roundtable discussion with several key people from EMDI.

As an introduction, Prof.dr. Steven Vertovec will give a talk on the concept of superdiversity and its' governance implications

Launch of the Erasmus Migration & Diversity Institute (EMDI)!

Migration and migration-related issues raise theoretical questions across disciplines. How do mobility and health issues interact, what is the relation between migration-related diversity and inequality and how does migration impact on cohesion, what are the implications of mobility and diversity for political and legal regimes?

Scholars from various departments of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) have decided to work together in order to address such cross-disciplinary questions raised by migration and diversity. Therefore, they launch the Erasmus Migration & Diversity Institute (EMDI).

EMDI has the main objective to deepen cross-disciplinary collaboration in research on migration and diversity and to position EUR in the rapidly developing international field of migration research. The central ambition of EMDI is to develop a better theoretical understanding of how mobility and diversity are changing contemporary societies and to contribute to the development of professional interventions, particularly in urban setting.
