In September 2015 the United Nations released the Sustainable Development Goals stressing the urgency to take action. Being more sustainable means taking into account the needs of today by not compromising the needs of future generations. Operating business as usual, this principle cannot be followed. Thus, a change is needed and everyone should take part in this. The Erasmus Sustainability Days i
s the main event organised by the Erasmus Sustainability Hub and the largest sustainability-focused event organised at EUR. For an entire week, students and employees of the university are encouraged to take part in various events from workshops, business cases, roundtable sessions and speeches to movie screenings and cooking workshops. By collaborating with committed frontrunners in sustainability, including local start-ups, multinationals, and EUR students introducing their own initiatives, we want to bring students and employees of the university together to learn and raise awareness of how we can make an impact. Our ambition is to inspire students to lead sustainable lives and empower students to break barriers and create positive societal impact. The economic, social, and environmental pillars of sustainability are tackled together by bringing together partners and guests from each pillar to create a widespread effect. Overall, the event strives to raise awareness amongst students and employees regarding the issues we are facing and which actions can make a real change. The Erasmus Sustainability Days 2021 will take place in the first week of March, from the 1st to the 5th, with the theme “DIY - Do It Yourself Sustainability”. The pandemic has shown us the importance of individual action and personal responsibility and this is something that goes hand in hand with sustainability. What we do as individuals in our daily life can have a significant impact on the future of our planet and society. Furthermore, each day will have a different focus, from “the new normal” to “think local”, all of which will highlight the importance of our individual actions and show what impact we can make, regardless of whether you are a consumer, producer or citizen.
