Yoyoi Kusama exhibition in ⭐️ Another hunt for inspiration from our student today in Amsterdam!

Yoyoi Kusama was one of the most influential artists of 20th and 21st century. Her work ranged from paintings, drawings, sculptures to fashion.

The exhibition is from 11.9.2026 until 17.1.2027.
If you love flowers, polka dots and an artist’s interesting life story you definitely shouldn’t miss this exposition. 🌺

Thijmen Burgerhout (Alumnus WdKA Docent Beeldende Kunst en Vormgeving) combineert zijn werk als textielkunstenaar met lesgeven op een middelbare school en als museumdocent. Zijn fijne kunstdocent op de middelbare school was een voorbeeld en moedigde hem aan voor de kunstacademie te kiezen. In zijn lessen wil hij leerlingen laten ontdekken, lachen en ervaren dat het oké is om te falen. Kunst ziet hij als een manier om te vertragen en bij te dragen aan de ontwikkeling van kinderen.

Nurdan Ariöz (Alumna WdKA Docent Beeldende Kunst en Vormgeving ) wilde nooit docent worden en twijfelde of de kunstacademie wel een plek voor haar was. Maar door les te geven ontdekte ze hoe krachtig het is om verhalen te verzamelen en door te geven. “Verhalen hoeven niet in boeken te staan. Je kunt ze ook vertellen met beelden, materialen en intuïtie.” Als docent laat zij zien dat het kunstvakdocentschap ruimte biedt voor verschillende achtergronden, perspectieven en manieren van maken.

To kick off the year, the Audiovisual Department challenged 1st, 2nd and 3rd-year students with a 48-hour project.

Students were mixed into groups and had to work together to shoot a short film in just 48 hours. But that’s not all: each group was assigned a different genre, and every film had to include a delivery person, a yellow overall, and the line: “Are you talking to me?”

Recap of 2026 !💥

Our second year advertising student took us through GRAW 2026 last weekend. From sculptures, magazines, paintings, design clothes, film production studios to conversations with artists and designers about the future of art and art industry. She met a lot of our alumni working in the design studios successfully following their dreams. So motivating and fun to get to know all these artists and studios.

OPEN CALL | SHOW YOUR WORK

For this year’s Open Day campaign, we’re inviting WdKA students, staff and alumni to showcase their creativity by submitting an original design.
Whether you work with digital art, photography, product design, drawing or another medium, we’d love to see your unique creative perspective.

From all submissions, 20 standout designs will be selected and featured on our social media channels and during our Open Days. A selection of the designs will also be displayed throughout Rotterdam.

🟡 HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your work will be incorporated into a fixed poster layout containing only a few essential details. Please submit only your artwork or design as a PNG file—do not format it as a poster.

The colour palette of the final poster will be inspired by your work and determined by our designer during the design process.

🟣DEADLINE
Send your creation to [email protected] by 21 September 2026.
