Centre for Innovation is the innovation hub of Leiden University: People first in innovation. Change is happening faster than ever. These we explore. We research.
Bringing about waves of opportunities and challenges. We experiment. We innovate. No matter how big or complex. To make the world a better place for everybody. We believe in learning. For ourselves. For others. We think a university is a brilliant means to harness the power of learning. That's why we're a part of Leiden University. We help to discover new opportunities. We test new methods and tec
hnology. We conquer challenges and come up with new solutions. Or new combinations. Together. Together with the teams that make up the Centre for Innovation. We connect the faculty, the students, our partners, the market and society at large. Only by actively merging these different perspectives, methods and experiences can we tackle global problems, no matter how tough. If we do find a winner, we help it grow. Nurture it. If not, we learn what we can and move on. This can-do spirit has brought us where we are today. We're a group of ambitious, curious doers. Our hands always itch. We don't know exactly where our journey will take us. That's part of the attraction. We will visit new shores, meet new people. We invite you to come along. It might not always be easy, but we promise: it won't be boring. We all might even learn a thing or two. And, hopefully, improve the world a little bit for the better. Labs
At the Centre for Innovation, we organise ourselves into Labs — groups of people working together on projects. This organisational model creates a flexible environment and culture and leads to constant innovation, unique output, and agility. Partners
The Centre for Innovation is connected to a large network of scientists, public sector, private sector and NGO’s. Many of them solidify their relation to the Centre for Innovation/Leiden University through a fellowship or a Lab partnership.

Leiden University has 444 years of history to look back on. The Centre for Innovation is here to help it look 444 years forward.
Who are we?
We’re builders, educators, designers, learners. We’re students, teachers, facilitators, researchers. We’re humanitarians, educators, and change-makers. We’re business and government in Leiden and The Hague. We’re problems and we’re innovations. We’re ideas and we’re processes. We’re the people exploring ideas of the present and learning of the future. That’s us.
What are we about?
Preparing Leiden University for the digital future. Exploring social and technological trends and experimenting with ways to reshape learning for the 21st century. Shepherding questions, ideas, and insights between higher education and global society. That’s what we do!
Our motto is “People first in innovation.” This means that we believe in empowering learners to shape the future, to work on global problems, to share global resources, and bring together global perspectives. We connect faculty, students, the market and society at large. We come together to build and learn.
Our work is 3-pronged with the themes of: Learning, Working, and Living
‘Learning’ refers to our ongoing and critical exploration of digitally innovative methods of conducting higher education activities, and ‘Working’ to collaborations with our partners on being at the forefront of how higher education can better prepare students and members of the future workforce for the changing world of work. ‘Living’ denotes our joint work with the humanitarian sector in The Hague.
Change is coming faster than ever. We need to be always changing too. That's part of the attraction of working in education innovation. The Centre for Innovation is connected to a large network of scientists, public sector, private sector and NGOs. We invite you to come along! It might not always be easy, but we promise: it will be exciting!
