Today, professor Arnoud-Jan Bijsterveld delivered his valedictory address, marking his official retirement. His farewell lecture was titled “A Radical Choice for Life Stories: History as Narrative Coping”. The auditorium in the Cobbenhagen building was filled to capacity with friends, family, and colleagues who gathered to honor his contributions and bid him farewell.
Although Tilburg University does not have a dedicated history department, Arnoud-Jan played a vital role within our Sociology department. His deep historical knowledge and insight greatly enriched our understanding of society.

Among his many achievements, one standout is his book “House of Memories: Uncovering the Past of a Dutch Jewish Family”, which can be accessed here: https://tilburguniversity.on.worldcat.org/oclc/957546961
Luckily for us, Arnoud-Jan will still show up at the department for supervising his PhD students. It is good to still have you on board, Arnoud-Jan! Thank you for all your work throughout the years!
