On May 12, Night University opens its doors to many visitors who will explore our campus after dark. You can be part of the team behind this magical night.

As a volunteer, you can:

✨ Help visitors find their way across campus
✨ Support activities as a location manager

We’re looking for volunteers between 14:30 – 01:00 hrs. You choose your shift!

🕰️Een Tilburgse tijdreis 🕰️
Ga terug in de tijd met Maarten van Riel, schrijver van

Tilburg staat bekend om haar textielverleden. De stad werd gekenmerkt door lange fabriekspijpen, grote loodsen en arbeidershuisjes. Hoe was het om in die tijd een textielarbeider te zijn? Wat heeft de stad Tilburg gevormd tot de bruisende studentenstad die het nu is? Dat ontdek je tijdens Night University!

🏭 Maarten van Riel is historicus en schreef het boek ‘Het Verdriet van Tilburg’ over zijn familiegeschiedenis die feilloos aan de stad verbonden is. Samen met stadshoogleraar Ton Wilthagen geeft Maarten een college over het bijzondere verleden van textielstad Tilburg.

🛍️ Come to the Free Fashion pop-up store at Night University and make your own moon-lit catwalk outfit!

👕️Secondhand clothing for all ages, and totally free. THIS IS FREE FASHION has it all, some new trousers, a jumper, or a nice shirt for your small ones. But why free fashion at a university?

Researchers at Tilburg University analyse consumer behaviour and try to understand why people keep buying new fashion items. Professor Niels van de Ven and project manager Nina Reimert from THIS IS FREE FASHION will dive deeper into this topic at Night University Junior in a Dutch lecture for children.

THIS IS FREE FASHION comes with the solution to the challenging search for good and affordable alternatives to new clothing: Pop-up stores across the country with free secondhand clothing for everyone. During Night University, THIS IS FREE FASHION will open its pop-up store right here on campus! Come and find your stunning new outfit. ✨

👻PAUL VAN LOON KOMT NAAR TILBURG👻
De eerste naam van Night University is bekend, en het is niemand minder dan de kinderboekenheld 📚

Nu zul je wel denken: Kinderboeken op de universiteit? Ja, want kinderboeken zijn griezelig interessant! Tijdens Night University duiken we in de duistere verhalen van de enige echte Grumor-meester en ontdek je waar de spanning uit zijn verhalen vandaan komt. Wetenschapper Suzanne van der Beek doet onderzoek naar spannende verhalen en gaat in gesprek met Paul van Loon over zijn monsterlijke boeken.

Er zijn twee colleges: één voor volwassenen en één voor de kleine weerwolfjes. Om het nog spannender te maken mogen kinderen zelf ook vragen stellen. Na afloop kun je ook nog jouw favoriete boek laten signeren, dus vergeet deze niet mee te nemen!

Kom alvast in de mood voor Night University tijdens ons speciale pre‑event in . Die avond duiken we in de wereld van the King: Elvis Presley

In een korte lezing vertellen godsdienstsocioloog Kees de Groot en cultuursocioloog Bram Peper waarom Elvis veel meer was dan alleen de King of Rock ’n’ Roll.

Waarom bestaan er nog steeds tribute bands? Hoe komt het dat Elvis als een heilige figuur wordt gezien? En waarom weet hij decennia later nog altijd mensen te inspireren?

✨ RECAP NIGHT UNIVERSITY 2024! ✨

1. ⭐ It was so nice seeing you all at Night University this year!

2. 🎓 We kicked off the night with Night University Junior for the younger ones.

3. 🧠 During his Night Talk, Rob Wijnberg, philosopher and founder of De Correspondent, talked about the past, present and future of what we see as Truth.

4. 🎻 Fortissimo Orchestra performed in the Dante foyer.

5. 🌍 NOS weatherman and glaciologist Peter Kuipers Munneke discussed facts and fables during his Night Talk about melting ice and rising sea levels.

6. 🎭 Dancer and choreographer Ilja Geelen performed a circular dance solo inspired by migration.

7. 🏆 PhD student Sonali Kulkarni won the science slam by presenting her research on the platformisation of reading and literary cultures like 'BookTok'!

8. 💃 DanceNation performed dances inspired by the celebration of Mother Earth.

9. 🎙️ Your singing talents were the highlight of the Karaoke with Sociologists!

10. 🎩 Steven Kazan brought the Night to a magical close with his show, filled with humor and illusions.
