Our colleagues where not slowing down this summer: during the Academy of Management conference from August 4 to 9, organized this year in Seattle, Dr. Jeske van Beurden together with Dr. Karina Van De Voorde and Prof. Marc van Veldhoven organized a symposium with the topic "the role of line managers and colleagues in how employees experience HR activities".
In this symposium, four speakers shared recent insights on (1) the role of colleagues in how employees experience HRM (presented by Dr. Sargam Garg, California State University, USA), (2) a psychometric analysis of manager and employee perceptions of HRM (presented by Prof. James Sun, Renmin University, China), (3) how the manager-employee relationship determines perceptions of HRM (presented by Dr. Aneeqa Suhail, Tilburg University), and (4) to what extent agreement in HR perceptions of manager and employees affects employee engagement and performance (presented by Dr. Jeske van Beurden, Tilburg University).
Finally, the symposium ended with a presentation in which valuable insights and discussion were shared by Prof. Kaifeng Jiang (Ohio State University, USA). The symposium showed that the employee experience of HR activities is crucial for the well-being and functioning of employees and thus the success of employees and organizations.
