On Wednesday, February 25, Asghar Seyed-Gohrab will give a lecture on the first female Islamic mystic, Rābiʿa al-ʿAdaviyya (c. 717–801). The lecture will explore how Rābiʿa carved out a space for herself in a predominantly male ascetic world, how she demonstrated that the mystical path of love transcends gender, and how she and her female contemporaries made their voices heard. It will also consider how these stories of female mystics can be interpreted in a modern, secular society. This event will take place in Dutch at the Congress and Meeting Centre In de Driehoek (Utrecht) on February 25, starting at 20:00 (doors open at 19:30).
