Gisteren lanceerden Nike Stam en Marieke Rotman de nieuwe bonusaflevering van de podcast "Op zoek naar de Draak" in de , feestelijk en met een bomvolle zaal betrokken publiek 🥳

In deze podcast spreken ze met Bart Jaski (conservator Utrecht University Library) en Patricia Faasse (schrijver en onderzoeker) over de correspondentie tussen twee academische pioniersvrouwen: Maartje Draak en Johanna Westerdijk. Wat zien we in hun brieven terug aan onderlinge steun en solidariteit? En wat was de rol van formele netwerken zoals de VVAO Landelijk?

What an absolute joy to receive a visit from the health care students and lecturers of Coleg Sir Gâr and Ceredigion ! Never before did students enjoy medieval Welsh grammar to such an extent 👏 and the discussion in our class on Language Contact and Minority Languages was all the livelier for having their community present 🐉

Also, we can now confidenty sing ! 😍

We started the class with a comparison between linguists and health care providers 💚, which we'll leave with you here:

“The concept of linguists working on such languages with no interest in the people who speak them – other than to see them as a source of data for a thesis or publication – is, or should be, as unacceptable a notion as it would be if doctors collected medical data without caring what happened subsequently to the patients. (…) [L]inguists have never affirmed the equivalent of a Hippocratic oath. Perhaps they should.”
