year 1
The IBMS programme is taught entirely in English. It focuses on the international aspects of marketing and sales, finance and business logistics. The programme prepares you for middle and top management positions at international companies. The first year of the programme is a general foundation year. You will be introduced into subjects like marketing, finance, business administration, management and organisation, economics, logistics and international law. Furthermore you will be trained in project, research and academic skills. The entire programme of study is closely geared to the reality of international business. Part of the education – the basic theory – is given in the form of lectures. In addition, you will be asked to draw up a business plan, for example. Project assignments are simulations of situations that could occur within a real company, or you may perform a ‘real’ assignment. n one project, for example, you will set up a new business and write a business plan, considering the marketing, logistical, legal, financial, organisational and cultural aspects. mainphase: year 2,3 4
In the main phase of the programme, students further build on the foundation
laid in the first year. To a certain extent, the students will be able to choose
their own emphasis by opting for a minor program, next to their major,
consisting of 30 European Credits. The most important themes of the major program are:
- Strategy and Marketing
- Business and IT
- Globalization and Finance
- Corporate Strategy
- Capital Management
- International Business
Specialization
Entrepreneurship for Developing Areas is a specialization within the IBMS
programme. Students learn all about the risks, threats and opportunities of
doing business in a developing area. You can follow this specialization once you
have completed the foundation year. Exemption for this year is possible for
A level students (for Dutch students: vwo level). Third year: study abroad
Through student exchange programmes, students can spend (half of) their
third year at internationally recognised partner universities all over the world,
for example in the United States, Great Britain, Thailand, France, Spain,
Germany or New Zealand. An exchange is mandatory for those students who
had their prior education in the Netherlands. Your study abroad will be one of
the richest and most unforgettable experiences of your life. The International
Office looks forward to helping you set this up. Individual Research Project
In year four students will serve a 5-months’ internship. During this Internship
they will do an in-depth research project. Two internships
Nothing compares with the learning experience of an internship in the real world itself! During the two internship periods, you’ll get a real taste of the business world outside school. You can make your internships a challenging and diverse learning experience. Internship Coordinators are ready to guide you. At least one internship needs to be done abroad. Internship 1 is in the second year and lasts 11 weeks; internship 2 is in the fourth year and lasts 20 weeks. Often the second internship is an important step towards finding your first job after graduation!
